Podia to Whop: How to Switch Without Losing Your Subscribers

By MoveToWhopUpdated 12 min readPricing verified

MoveToWhop is independent and not affiliated with Whop, Inc. or any platform we cover. We may earn a referral commission from Whop when you create a Whop through our links. It never costs you anything, and it's how we keep migrations free. How we make money

Quick answer

Podia creates every subscription inside your own Stripe account, so Whop Migrations can move active card subscribers of $1 or more with their renewal dates. Order matters: cancelling Podia cancels all its subscriptions and payment plans, so migrate first and close Podia last. Customer lists come from Podia's CSV exports, courses are rebuilt in Whop Courses, and Podia's files download one at a time as compressed copies.

What moves

Podia to Whop at a glance

This is what the free migration tool does for Podia today. Rows marked Guided or From your export need some input from you: a confirmation in the wizard or the file Podia gives you.

  • Products & pricing

    Moves

    You confirm your products and prices in the wizard (prefilled where we can). We create matching Whop products and pricing plans through Whop's official API.

  • Courses

    Moves

    Paste or import your course outline and we create the chapters and lessons in Whop Courses. Video files don't transfer automatically: re-upload them in Whop or embed them from YouTube or Loom.

  • Members

    From export

    Upload the member export from Podia. We clean it and set up a hidden "Existing members" option on Whop: free claim links for one-time buyers, and active card subscriptions move with Whop's own Stripe migration (see Paying subscribers below). Whop's API can't add members directly, so members claim access from the link you send.

  • Community

    Moves

    We create Whop Forums and Chat with a pinned welcome post. Old posts and comments don't move, because Whop's API would post them as you, dated today.

  • Paying subscribers

    Moves

    Podia bills through your own Stripe account, so Whop's Stripe migration can move active card subscriptions. Don't cancel Podia until the migration finishes: closing the account cancels its subscriptions.

Guided:
you confirm or paste it in the wizard, and we create it on Whop.
From your export:
imported from the export file Podia gives you.

On this page

What moves from Podia to Whop

Your customer lists, your prices and your Stripe card subscribers come across. Course files, community posts and email campaigns get rebuilt by hand, because Podia has no public API or webhooks and no content export. Public site pages may be the exception: Whop's website migration tries to rebuild a site from its URL with AI. It's untested on Podia, so check the result. The table above shows how each part moves; here's what that means for a Podia site.

Customers and contacts

Podia gives you two exports, and you want both. The contacts export (Admin, then Audience, tick Select All, then Actions, Export and Export people) emails you a CSV with each person's name, email, address, start date, product sign-up date and subscription status. It doesn't include tags, so write down your segments before you leave.

The customer export runs per product. Open Products, click the three dots next to a paid product and choose Export customers. Podia only includes customers who are actively enrolled, so a product whose buyers have all expired exports an empty file. For past buyers, download your sales export and filter the Items column by product name.

Save each file as soon as the email arrives. Podia says the download links stop working once your account is deleted.

Whop's API can't add members directly, so every customer Whop Migrations doesn't move claims access through a link. Run your files through the member CSV converter to merge duplicates and split subscribers, one-time buyers and free contacts. Our tool then creates a hidden "Existing members" option on Whop: free claim links for people who bought once, and a matching plan with a free trial for any subscriber Whop Migrations doesn't move.

Products and prices

In the wizard you confirm each Podia product and price, and we create a matching Whop product and plan through Whop's official API. Each Podia product type has a Whop app to land in:

  • Online courses go into the Courses app, which handles video lessons, quizzes and progress tracking.
  • Digital downloads go into Files.
  • Coaching becomes Calendar Bookings, for paid or free one-to-one sessions.
  • Webinars and events go into Events, which runs live or in-person sessions with optional paid tickets.
  • Community plans become a product with Forums and Chat attached.
  • A bundle becomes one Whop product with several apps attached.

Courses and files

Podia has no course export, so you paste each course outline into the wizard and we build the chapters, lessons, lesson text and YouTube or Loom embeds in Whop Courses. Video files don't transfer automatically.

Getting files out of Podia takes time. The Files library has a download icon next to each item and no bulk download, and Podia keeps only compressed streaming copies of video and audio, not the files you uploaded. If you still have your originals, upload those to Whop instead.

Community

Since June 2026 Podia has been community-first, with spaces, member DMs and group chats in one home feed. On Whop, our tool sets up Forums for your spaces and Chat for conversation, and pins a welcome post. Old posts, comments and DMs stay on Podia, because Whop's API publishes posts under your name, dated today.

Payments

Podia doesn't process payments itself. You connect your own Stripe account, and Podia creates each subscription and payment plan inside it. That makes your card subscribers eligible for Whop Migrations, Whop's tool for copying active and trialing Stripe card subscriptions of $1 or more with the saved card and the next renewal date. Whop then schedules each old Stripe subscription to cancel at the end of its current period, so nobody pays twice.

Three groups take a different path:

  • Members who pay with Stripe Link, which Podia offers at checkout. Whop Migrations moves card subscriptions only, so they re-subscribe on Whop with a free trial that ends on their next Podia renewal.
  • Past-due members, subscriptions under $1 and customers with no email in Stripe. Same fix.
  • PayPal buyers. Podia's PayPal connection takes one-time payments only, so there are no PayPal subscribers to move, and one-time buyers get a free claim link.

Payment plans need a decision of their own, covered next.

The order that keeps your Podia subscribers

Run Whop Migrations while Podia is still active and still connected to Stripe, and cancel Podia last. Podia's own help center explains why the order matters.

When your Podia plan is cancelled or expires, Podia says all recurring subscriptions and payment plans are canceled and "cannot be reinstated". Whop Migrations only picks up active or trialing subscriptions. Close Podia first and every card subscriber lands on the re-subscribe path, where some of them won't come back.

Three habits keep you out of trouble:

  1. Keep your Podia billing current. Podia also cancels an account when it can't collect the plan payment after several attempts, which triggers the same mass cancellation.
  2. Don't disconnect or switch Stripe in Podia. Podia says subscriptions it created keep charging in the old Stripe account afterwards, but Podia can no longer manage them, and those members can't cancel or change plans. Whop Migrations doesn't need you to disconnect anything.
  3. Decide about payment plans before you start. Whop's announcement covers subscriptions and doesn't mention installment plans. The safe route is to exclude payment-plan buyers in Whop's preview (it accepts email addresses or Stripe subscription IDs), let them finish paying on Podia, and give them Whop access now with a free claim link.

If you have hundreds of subscribers, consider a pilot. Exclude everyone except a few members who've agreed to help, migrate them, and check their Whop access and their Podia status before you run it for the rest. Whop skips subscriptions it has already moved, so a second run picks up only the remainder.

How the switch works, step by step

Nine steps take you from Podia to Whop, and Podia stays live until the last one.

  1. Export from Podia: the full contacts list, the customer list for each paid product, your sales export and your coupons.
  2. Collect your course videos and downloads, from your own originals where you have them, or one by one from Podia's Files library.
  3. Open the free Podia to Whop migration tool and connect Whop with Whop's official Sign in with Whop. We never ask for your Podia or Stripe password. Upload your customer files and confirm each product and price.
  4. Paste each course outline, then upload the videos in Whop or swap in YouTube or Loom embeds.
  5. Set up the community. The wizard creates Forums, Chat and a welcome post; add Events, Calendar Bookings and Files by hand.
  6. Email your members before anything changes, using the template below.
  7. In Whop, open Settings, then Migrations, and choose Stripe. Enter the keys for the Stripe account Podia uses, add the Whop email shown on screen to your Stripe team with the Data migration specialist role, review the preview, exclude payment-plan buyers, start, and download the CSV report. The subscription migration guide walks through each screen, and our Stripe to Whop walkthrough covers handing over your keys safely.
  8. Send links to everyone the report didn't cover: the hidden subscriber plan with a trial for skipped subscribers, and free claim links for one-time and payment-plan buyers.
  9. Close Podia last, once payment plans have finished and every file is saved.

How to keep members and avoid double billing

Card subscribers moved by Whop Migrations don't need to do anything. Whop bills them on their usual date at the same price, and Stripe emails them that the old subscription is set to cancel. Tell them before you start so that email doesn't cause alarm.

Subscribers the report skipped join the hidden plan at their current price, with a free trial that ends on their next Podia renewal. Once each one has joined, cancel their Podia subscription so it doesn't renew on top of the Whop trial. Whop sets trial length per checkout link, in days, so group skipped members by renewal week instead of making one link per person.

Expect Podia to close a member's access when their migrated Stripe subscription reaches the end of its period, because the old subscription ends then. Have their courses and downloads ready on Whop before the first period runs out.

Member email template

Adjust this and send it to every paying customer before step 7:

Subject: We're moving to Whop on [date]

Hi [first name],

On [date], [your brand] moves from Podia to Whop. Your courses, downloads and community are coming with us.

If you pay for a membership by card, you don't need to do anything. Your plan moves at the same price and renews on the same date, and future receipts come from Whop. Stripe may email you that your old subscription is ending, which is expected.

If you bought a course or download, claim free access here: [claim link]

If you're on a payment plan, keep paying as usual until your last installment. You can start using Whop today with this link: [claim link]

Podia stays open until [date], so nothing disappears while you move.

Our migration announcement templates add reminder emails and community posts for the weeks around the switch.

Podia vs Whop fees at your revenue

On a $49 monthly membership, Whop costs less than every Podia plan until about $33,000 a month in sales, or about $22,000 once you count Whop's $0.07 Radar fee. At $10,000 a month you'd pay about $381 on Whop ($396 with Radar), $450 on Shaker and $900 on Mover.

Prices as of October 2026. US cards, $49/month membership, plans billed monthly. Sources at the end of this page.

Monthly salesPodia Mover ($49/mo)Podia Shaker ($99/mo)Podia Earthquaker ($179/mo)Whop ($0/mo)
$1,000$134$134$214$38
$10,000$900$450$530$381
$50,000$4,305$1,855$1,935$1,906

How we calculated it: monthly cost = plan price + (sales × percentage fees) + (30¢ × charges), where charges = sales ÷ $49. Mover adds Podia's 5% fee to Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢. Shaker and Earthquaker take no Podia fee, so you pay Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢. For Whop we used its published 2.7% + 30¢ plus the 0.5% billing fee (charged when billing is enabled) on recurring charges. We assumed US cards, no add-ons, no payout fees and no currency conversion, and rounded to whole dollars.

What the table shows:

  • Mover and Shaker cost the same at $1,000 a month. Above that, Mover's 5% costs more than Shaker's extra $50.
  • Shaker beats Whop above about $33,000 a month, and Earthquaker above about $60,000, because Stripe's 2.9% is lower than Whop's 3.2% on renewals with billing enabled. Count Whop's $0.07 Radar fee and those points drop to about $22,000 and $40,000, and at $50,000 Whop comes to $1,978, more than both.
  • Podia doesn't say whether Stripe charges its 0.7% Billing fee on subscriptions Podia creates in your account. If your Stripe fee reports show Billing charges, add about $70 per $10,000 in sales to the Podia columns, and Whop comes out cheaper at every level.
  • Paying Podia yearly lowers the plans to $42, $84 or $150 a month. Email subscribers above your plan's 100, 500 or 1,000 cost extra, for example $70 a month for 10,000.

Left out on Whop's side: 1.5% more for international cards, 1% for currency conversion, $0.07 for Radar per transaction (counted only in the crossover points above), 1.25% on affiliate-referred sales, payout fees such as $2.50 for next-day ACH, and the optional 2% tax service. Run your own price and volume through the fee calculator, or read every Whop fee explained.

What you'll rebuild by hand

Content is the manual part of a Podia move. Effort here is relative, not timed.

WhatEffortTip
Course videosHighUpload your originals. Podia's downloads are compressed copies, one file at a time.
Lesson text and quizzesMediumPaste text with your outline and rebuild quizzes in Whop Courses.
Digital downloadsLowUpload them to the Files app and attach it to the product.
CoachingLowSet up Calendar Bookings for paid or free sessions.
Webinars and eventsLowRecreate upcoming dates in Events and post the new link on Podia.
Community postsMediumRepost your best evergreen threads in Forums. The rest stays behind.
Email campaigns and sequencesMediumYour list comes out in the contacts export, without tags. Whop has no built-in broadcasts, sequences or segments, so rebuild campaigns and automations in an email app from Whop's App Store or your own email tool.
Website, blog and landing pagesMediumBefore you cancel, try Whop's website migration (announced Oct 2, 2026): paste your Podia URL and Whop's AI tries to rebuild your public pages, products and images on a free whop.site website. Whop hasn't shown it on a Podia site, so check every page, and delete any products that duplicate the ones our wizard created. It can take up to an hour, and it doesn't move members, subscriptions, SEO redirects or your domain. Edits happen by AI chat or code. Whop has no built-in blog, so save your posts, and a custom domain currently connects through Whop's API.
CouponsLowUse Podia's coupon export to recreate them as Whop promo codes.
Affiliates (Shaker and up)LowSet an affiliate rate on Whop and send partners their new links. Whop adds a 1.25% processing fee on affiliate-referred sales and pays commissions 30 days after purchase.

Should you switch from Podia to Whop?

Switch if Podia's plan fee or Mover's 5% costs you more than a careful cutover. Stay if Podia's 0% fee at high volume, its built-in email marketing, or card payments landing straight in your own Stripe account matters more.

Switching makes sense if you:

  • are on Mover, since its 5% fee makes Whop cheaper at any revenue;
  • are on Shaker below about $22,000 a month in sales, or Earthquaker below about $40,000, counting Whop's $0.07 Radar fee (about $33,000 and $60,000 without it);
  • keep bumping into Podia's caps of 50 or 150 products and 500 or 1,000 videos on Mover and Shaker, while Whop doesn't publish product caps;
  • want a public API, which Podia doesn't offer and Whop does;
  • want buyers to find you through Whop's Discover marketplace, whose published commission has been 0% since May 12, 2025.

Stay on Podia if you:

  • sell more than about $22,000 a month on Shaker (about $33,000 before Whop's $0.07 Radar fee), mostly to US cards, and Stripe doesn't bill you for Billing;
  • want card payments landing in your own Stripe account. Whop processes card sales through Whop Payments (PayPal sales can pay out to a linked PayPal account), and new accounts go through identity checks and can face reserves and a $2,500 cap per checkout until approved;
  • send newsletters and automated sequences from Podia's built-in email. Whop has no built-in email marketing (no broadcasts, sequences or segments): it sends welcome and goodbye DMs with an optional email copy, forum posts by email and transactional emails, and email marketing comes from third-party apps in Whop's App Store;
  • rely on Podia's built-in sales tax collection, which every plan includes. Whop's optional tax service adds 2% on sales where it collects tax, and one option also remits it for you in the US, UK and EU. On Discover marketplace sales, Whop handles sales tax itself;
  • have many customers partway through payment plans and don't want to run two platforms until they finish.

Still comparing? Our Podia alternatives roundup covers Kajabi, Teachable, Thinkific, Systeme.io, Skool and Circle as well.

After the move: launch checklist

Run through this before you tell members the move is finished:

  • Buy your own product with a real card to test checkout, access and the receipt email.
  • Open a claim link in a private browser window and check it opens Courses, Files and Forums.
  • Compare Whop's migration report with your Podia customer exports, and email anyone missing from both.
  • Finish Whop's identity verification and add a payout method before the first renewals.
  • If any price is above $2,500, apply for higher checkout limits before launch.
  • Repoint your custom domain, link in bio, email footers and video descriptions at Whop. Connecting a custom domain to a whop.site website currently goes through Whop's API.
  • Cancel Podia only after payment plans finish. Podia keeps your data for 180 days, but you'd have to buy a plan again to reach it.

Frequently asked questions

Will my Podia subscribers have to re-enter their card on Whop?

Most won't. Podia creates subscriptions inside your own Stripe account, so Whop Migrations can copy active and trialing card subscriptions of $1 or more with the saved card and renewal date. Members paying with Stripe Link, past-due members and anyone paying under $1 aren't covered, so send them a Whop link with a free trial that ends on their next Podia renewal.

What happens if I cancel Podia before I migrate?

Podia cancels every recurring subscription and payment plan, and its help center says they can't be reinstated. Whop Migrations only moves active or trialing subscriptions, so all of those members would have to sign up again. The same thing happens if your Podia plan lapses because Podia can't collect your payment, so keep your billing details current until the move is done.

Should I disconnect Stripe from Podia before migrating?

No. Whop Migrations reads the Stripe account Podia already uses, so there's nothing to disconnect. Podia says that if you disconnect or switch Stripe, the subscriptions it created keep charging in the old account, but Podia can no longer manage them and members can't cancel or change plans from Podia. That only makes the move harder to track.

Can I download my course videos from Podia?

Yes, one file at a time. Podia's Files library has no bulk download, and Podia keeps only compressed streaming copies of video and audio, not the originals you uploaded. If you still have your original files, upload those to Whop Courses instead. Videos already hosted on YouTube or Loom come across as embeds when you paste your course outline.

Why is my Podia customer export missing people?

Podia's per-product customer export only lists customers who are actively enrolled, so anyone whose access expired is left out, and an expired product can produce an empty file. To find past buyers, download your sales export and filter the Items column by product name. The full contacts export lists everyone in your audience, but it doesn't include tags.

What should I do with customers on a Podia payment plan?

Handle them separately, because Whop's Migrations announcement covers subscriptions and doesn't mention installment plans. Exclude those buyers in Whop's preview, let them finish paying on Podia, and give them Whop access now with a free claim link. Keep Podia open until the last installment clears, since cancelling Podia stops every remaining payment plan.

Is Whop cheaper than Podia?

Up to about $33,000 a month in $49 memberships, yes, or about $22,000 once you count Whop's $0.07 Radar fee. At $10,000 a month, fees come to about $900 on Mover, $450 on Shaker and $381 on Whop ($396 with Radar). Above that, Shaker's 0% Podia fee plus Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢ beats Whop's 2.7% + 30¢ plus its 0.5% billing fee when enabled (3.2% + 30¢) on renewals, unless Stripe also charges you its 0.7% Billing fee on Podia subscriptions.

Will my Podia site stay online during the move?

Yes, as long as your Podia plan stays active. A cancellation takes effect at the end of your billing period. After that the site goes offline, customers lose access to what they bought, and you can't log in to export anything. Podia keeps your data for 180 days, but you'd have to buy a paid plan again to reach it.
