Quick answer
The best Gumroad alternatives in 2026 are Whop (lowest fees in our model: $420 on $10,000 a month of $20 sales, or $455 with its Radar fee, versus $1,690 on Gumroad), Ko-fi and Stan Store (flat plans that undercut Whop at high volume once Radar counts), Payhip (the cheapest option that also handles sales tax above $4,600 to $5,500 a month), Podia, Sellfy and Lemon Squeezy. Wherever you go, Gumroad subscribers have to re-subscribe.

Quick picks
Each platform below suits a different kind of seller:
- Best for low per-sale fees and for memberships with built-in community apps: Whop
- Best for tips, commissions and small shops: Ko-fi
- Best link-in-bio store: Stan Store
- Best if you want sales tax handled, as on Gumroad: Payhip
- Best all-in-one for courses and downloads: Podia
- Best for selling merch next to downloads: Sellfy
- Best for software sold through a merchant of record: Lemon Squeezy
We list Whop first because it had the lowest total fees at all three sales volumes we modeled. That's before Whop's $0.07 Radar fee per sale; counting it, Whop stays cheapest at $1,000 a month, but Ko-fi Gold is cheaper above about $8,000 (details below). We earn a commission from Whop and nothing from the other platforms on this list.
Gumroad alternatives compared by fees
At $10,000 a month in $20 sales, fees on these seven alternatives range from $420 on Whop ($455 with its Radar fee, $3 more than Ko-fi Gold) to $750 on Lemon Squeezy. The same sales cost $1,690 on Gumroad.
Prices as of October 2026. Sources at the end of this page.
| Platform (plan used) | $1,000 a month | $10,000 a month | $50,000 a month | Handles sales tax for you? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Whop | $42 | $420 | $2,100 | Discover sales in the US, EU and UK; 2% opt-in for direct sales |
| Ko-fi (Gold) | $56 | $452 | $2,212 | No |
| Stan Store (Creator) | $73 | $469 | $2,229 | No |
| Payhip (Plus, then Pro) | $93 | $539 | $2,299 | Yes: EU/UK VAT, US/Canadian sales tax |
| Podia (Mover or Shaker, then Shaker) | $143 | $539 | $2,299 | Calculates it; you remit |
| Sellfy (Business, then Premium) | $123 | $599 | Over the $200k/year cap | No |
| Lemon Squeezy | $75 | $750 | $3,750 | Yes (merchant of record) |
| Gumroad (baseline) | $169 | $1,690 | $6,950 | Yes (merchant of record) |
How we calculated it: monthly cost = plan price + number of sales × ($20 × fee % + fixed fee). Every row uses $20 one-time digital sales paid with US cards, the cheapest plan that fits each volume with monthly billing, and the platform's own fee plus card processing (Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢ where you bring your own processor). We left out Whop's $0.07 Radar fraud-screening fee per sale, payout fees, international cards, add-ons and paid tax services.
Two rows need a note. Gumroad's $50,000 figure uses its 5% high-volume rate on sales after the first $20,000 each month; Gumroad's code shows that rate is switched on seller by seller, and without it the cost is $8,450. Sellfy's plans cap yearly sales at $200,000, and above that Sellfy asks you to contact it for pricing. To test your own price and volume, use the creator fee calculator.
Radar changes the top of the table. Whop's fee page lists it at $0.07 per transaction, and our calculator leaves it off unless you tick it. Counting it, Whop costs $46, $455 and $2,275: still the cheapest at $1,000 a month, $3 more than Ko-fi Gold at $10,000, and more than both Ko-fi Gold and Stan Store Creator at $50,000.
If you want the platform to handle tax
Gumroad's 10% pays for worldwide tax handling, so compare like with like if you don't want to file sales tax or VAT yourself. Among options that take tax off your hands, at $10,000 a month Payhip Pro costs $539, Whop with its 2% tax service costs $620, Lemon Squeezy costs $750 and Gumroad costs $1,690. Whop charges the 2% only on sales where it collects tax, so we applied it to every sale as a worst case. Adding Whop's $0.07 Radar fee takes it to $655.
Whop with the tax service is the cheaper of those below about $5,500 a month (about $4,600 with Radar); at $1,000 a month it costs $62 ($66 with Radar), against $75 on Lemon Squeezy and $93 on Payhip. Above that, Payhip Pro wins, because its tax handling costs nothing extra. Coverage differs too: Payhip lists EU and UK VAT plus US and Canadian sales tax, and Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy act as merchant of record. Whop says it is the merchant of record on its payments too and carries dispute liability, but tax on direct sales is opt-in, and its 2% service remits only in the US, EU and UK.
Why creators look for Gumroad alternatives
Fees, payouts and support are the reasons that come up most in seller threads, and Gumroad's 2026 payout change added a new one.
- Fees: Gumroad takes 10% + 50¢ per direct sale, and card processing of 2.9% + 30¢ comes on top. A $10 product loses $2.09 (20.9%). Sales through Discover cost a flat 30%.
- Payouts: on March 23, 2026, Gumroad raised its minimum payout balance from $10 to $100. In one seller thread about the change, sellers said there was no advance notice, and several said they had moved to Payhip or Ko-fi.
- Support: Gumroad says its AI agent, Gumclaw, answers creator tickets, issues refunds, reviews risk and resolves payout questions. Some sellers describe slow, automated answers when something breaks.
- Reputation: Gumroad held 1.4 out of 5 from 417 Trustpilot reviews when we checked on October 2, 2026.
How we chose and ranked these alternatives
We picked platforms that sell digital products to the same creators Gumroad serves, then ranked them by total fees at $10,000 a month, using Whop's rate without its Radar fee. We also weighed tax handling, payout access, what you can sell and how hard it is to move off Gumroad.
All prices come from each company's own pricing pages and help centers, checked on October 3, 2026. Ko-fi's live pricing page blocked our automated check, so its figures come from Ko-fi's own pricing page as archived on September 8, 2026. We haven't run test sales on these platforms for this page. Where two platforms tied on fees, we ranked the one that handles tax for you higher, which puts Payhip ahead of Podia.
1. Whop: best for low fees and memberships
Whop is a pay-as-you-go platform for memberships, courses, communities, downloads, software and physical products, with its own marketplace, Discover. There's no monthly fee: a US card sale costs 2.7% + 30¢, and subscription charges add 0.5% when Whop's billing add-on is enabled. At $10,000 a month in $20 sales that's $420, the lowest in our comparison and $1,270 less than Gumroad. Whop's fee page also lists Radar fraud screening at $0.07 per transaction; counting it, that's $455, $3 more than Ko-fi Gold.
What it does well:
- Whop's published commission on Discover marketplace sales is 0%; it dropped its 30% fee on May 12, 2025. Whop's global affiliates can promote listed products at a default 30% commission that you can change, plus a 1.25% affiliate processing fee.
- A single product can include Courses with quizzes and certificates, Chat, Forums, livestreams, events and Discord server access. Whop's fee page lists no Discord fee, but the Discord app's listing says adding it brings a 3% fee on that product's payments, so budget for both cases. In our $10,000-a-month model, the 3% would take Whop from $420 to $720, more than every alternative here except Lemon Squeezy.
- Downloads go out through the Files app, every business gets a public store page, and since August 2026 you can add a free website at a whop.site address, built and edited through Whop's AI or in code, with checkout included. There's no drag-and-drop editor or built-in blog.
- Since October 1, 2026, Whop also runs ecommerce stores with a multi-product cart, variants and inventory. It doesn't set shipping rates or print labels yet.
- Its Software app issues a license key per purchase, so it suits software sellers too.
- After a one-time ID and bank verification, sale money becomes available in 1 to 4 business days, and the minimum withdrawal is $10. Standard payouts then take up to 5 business days.
Where it falls short:
- Direct-sale tax costs 2% if Whop collects it, and Whop remits only in the US, EU and UK.
- There's no built-in email marketing: no broadcasts, sequences or segments. Whop sends welcome and goodbye DMs with an optional email copy, forum posts by email and transactional emails. If you email your Gumroad customers today, add an email app from Whop's App Store or connect your own email tool.
- New accounts have a $2,500 cap per checkout link and may have part of their balance held in reserve.
- Payouts cost $2.50 by next-day ACH.
Switching from Gumroad: our free migration wizard creates your products and plans on Whop and turns your Gumroad sales CSV into claim links. Subscribers re-subscribe with a free trial that ends on their next Gumroad renewal date. The Gumroad to Whop playbook has every step, and our Whop vs Gumroad comparison covers features in depth.
Choose it if you want low fees with no monthly plan, or you sell memberships and communities.
2. Ko-fi: best for tips, commissions and small shops
Ko-fi is a creator page for tips, memberships, commissions and a shop, and it never holds your money: buyers pay straight into your own PayPal or Stripe account. New creators start on Standard, which is free but takes a 5% service fee on every payment, tips included. Gold costs $12 a month and drops the service fee to 0%, so $10,000 a month in $20 sales costs about $452 in plan and card fees.
At a $20 average price, Gold costs less than Gumroad from roughly $100 a month in sales, and less than Ko-fi's own Standard plan above $240 a month. Ko-fi also offers Discord roles for supporters and stream alerts.
The main gap is tax. Ko-fi says it is not the merchant of record and doesn't collect or remit sales tax or VAT; it gives you tools to add tax at checkout, and you file and pay it.
Switching from Gumroad: recreate your products by hand, and ask members to re-subscribe, since Gumroad keeps their cards.
Choose it if your income is mostly tips, commissions and a small shop, and you're comfortable handling your own tax.
3. Stan Store: best link-in-bio store
Stan Store is a mobile-first link-in-bio store for downloads, courses, coaching bookings, memberships and community. Creator costs $29 a month ($300 billed yearly) and Creator Pro costs $99 ($948 yearly). Stan takes no cut of sales; card payments run through a Stripe account Stan creates for you, at 2.9% + 30¢ plus 0.5% on recurring payments. At $10,000 a month in $20 sales, Creator costs about $469.
Creator Pro adds email broadcasts and automated flows, funnels, order bumps, discount codes, payment plans and affiliate tools. If you rely on the discount codes and customer emails that Gumroad includes at no monthly cost, budget for the $99 plan.
Drawbacks: you cash out manually, and Stan lists a Stripe payout fee of 0.25% + 25¢ per cash-out, with a $1 minimum. Stan isn't the merchant of record, so sales tax stays your job; Stripe Tax can calculate it at checkout in some countries.
Switching from Gumroad: rebuild your products in Stan and have members re-subscribe. If you're torn between the two flat-fee models, our Whop vs Stan Store comparison runs the numbers, the Stan Store pricing guide explains both plans, and our Stan Store alternatives list covers other link-in-bio stores.
Choose it if you sell mainly through Instagram or TikTok bio links and prefer a flat monthly price to a cut of each sale.
4. Payhip: best if you want tax handled, as on Gumroad
Payhip is the closest like-for-like swap for Gumroad: a store for downloads, courses, memberships, coaching and software, with tax handled for you. Plans cost $0 with a 5% transaction fee, $29 a month with 2%, or $99 a month with none, and every plan gets every feature. PayPal or Stripe processing comes on top, and Payhip deposits each sale to you right after the transaction.
Tax is where Payhip stands out. It collects and pays digital EU and UK VAT and US and Canadian sales tax for you, and it took on US sales tax as a marketplace facilitator on July 1, 2026, at no charge. If you have a physical presence in a US state, you may still need to file a zero-dollar return there.
The plan math is simple: Free is cheapest below about $970 a month, Plus between $970 and $3,500, and Pro above $3,500. At $10,000 a month in $20 sales, Pro costs $539. For software, Payhip can issue a license key with each purchase.
Switching from Gumroad: rebuild your products and have members re-subscribe.
Choose it if you want Gumroad's hands-off tax at a lower price, especially above about $5,500 a month.
5. Podia: best all-in-one for courses and downloads
Podia bundles courses, downloads, coaching, community, a website and email marketing into one subscription. Mover costs $49 a month ($42 billed yearly) and adds a 5% transaction fee; Shaker ($99, or $84 yearly) and Earthquaker ($179, or $150 yearly) charge no transaction fee. Sales go to your own Stripe account, so you pay Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢, and PayPal is available on Shaker and up for one-time payments. At $10,000 a month in $20 sales, Shaker costs $539.
Podia offers free migration help for up to 50 products on Mover and 150 on Shaker and Earthquaker, covering course content, downloads, customer emails and free subscribers. Each plan includes some email subscribers (100, 500 or 1,000), and larger lists cost extra each month.
Drawbacks: Podia isn't a merchant of record. It calculates tax at checkout, but you register, file and pay. Mover's 5% fee makes Shaker the cheaper plan once you sell more than $1,000 a month, and Mover caps you at 50 products.
Choose it if you want one subscription that covers courses, downloads and community, and you're comfortable remitting tax.
6. Sellfy: best for merch next to downloads
Sellfy is a storefront for digital products, subscriptions, physical goods and print-on-demand merch. It takes 0% of sales on every plan; you pay PayPal or Stripe processing (Sellfy says typically 2.9% + 30¢) and a plan that caps your yearly sales. Starter costs $29 a month ($22 billed yearly) for up to $10,000 a year, Business $79 ($59) for up to $50,000, and Premium $159 ($119) for up to $200,000.
Because of the caps, $1,000 a month ($12,000 a year) already needs Business, at $123 a month all-in, and $10,000 a month needs Premium, at $599. Above $200,000 a year Sellfy asks you to contact it, and it may charge a 2% overage fee if you pass your plan's limit without upgrading.
What it does well: print-on-demand products are printed and shipped only when someone orders, and every plan includes email marketing credits (2,000, 10,000 or 50,000 by plan). Drawbacks: Sellfy says it is not the merchant of record, so tax is yours to handle, and upsells, cart-abandonment emails and affiliates start on Business.
Switching from Gumroad: rebuild your products in Sellfy and have members re-subscribe.
Choose it if you sell merch alongside downloads and stay under $200,000 a year.
7. Lemon Squeezy: best for software sold through a merchant of record
Lemon Squeezy is a merchant of record built for software and digital products. It handles sales tax and VAT, license keys, subscriptions and usage-based billing, with no monthly fee. It charges 5% + 50¢ per transaction, plus 1.5% on international payments, 1.5% on PayPal payments and 0.5% on subscription payments, and pays out twice a month. At $10,000 a month in $20 sales that's $750.
Its future is the open question. In a January 28, 2026 post, Lemon Squeezy said it is being folded into Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe's own merchant-of-record product, and that it plans to give users an easy way to migrate. Stripe prices Managed Payments at 3.5% per transaction on top of standard Stripe processing. If you choose Lemon Squeezy today, expect at least one more move.
Switching from Gumroad: recreate your products, plan how your software will accept Lemon Squeezy keys alongside existing Gumroad keys, and have members re-subscribe.
Choose it if you sell software, want a merchant of record, and can live with a platform in transition.
Should you leave Gumroad at all?
Leaving pays off once fees add up to real money, but it costs you something too: every subscriber has to sign up again. At $200 a month in $20 sales, moving to Whop saves about $25 a month. If re-subscribing would cost you even a few members, that may not be worth it yet.
Stay on Gumroad if Discover brings in a meaningful share of your buyers (count the rows marked 1 in the Discover? column of your sales export), or if you sell into countries that Payhip's and Whop's tax services don't cover and don't want to file there. Of the seven alternatives above, only Payhip and Lemon Squeezy fully take over sales tax and VAT for direct sales without a paid add-on.
How to move off Gumroad
The steps are the same whichever platform you pick: export, rebuild, invite, then cancel.
- Export your sales CSV, subscriber list and payout reports from Gumroad. Remove buyers marked in the Do not contact? column before emailing anyone.
- Download your product files. If you've lost the originals, Gumroad suggests making a test purchase of each product.
- Rebuild your products, prices and course content on the new platform.
- Give past one-time buyers access, and invite subscribers to re-subscribe with a free trial that ends on their next Gumroad renewal. Gumroad bills each member on the same day of the month they first bought.
- Unpublish your Gumroad products rather than deleting them; deleting a membership product cancels every member at once.
- Cancel each Gumroad membership after that member has joined the new platform, and keep your account open until your last payout, since Gumroad pays out only once your balance reaches $100.
If you're moving to Whop, the member CSV converter cleans your Gumroad export in the browser, and the migration wizard builds the rest. If you also have patrons on Patreon, our Patreon alternatives guide ranks options by what you keep.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest Gumroad alternative?
Whop, in our model of $20 one-time sales: $42 in fees on $1,000 a month, $420 on $10,000 and $2,100 on $50,000, against $169, $1,690 and $6,950 on Gumroad. Ko-fi Gold comes second at $56, $452 and $2,212, and is cheaper above about $8,000 a month if you add Whop's $0.07 Radar fee. With sales tax handled, Whop's 2% tax service is cheapest below $4,600 to $5,500 a month, depending on Radar, and Payhip Pro above that.
Is there a free alternative to Gumroad?
Several have no monthly fee: Whop (2.7% + 30¢ per domestic card sale), Lemon Squeezy (5% + 50¢), Payhip Free (5% plus processing) and Ko-fi Standard (5% plus processing). Free only means no subscription. Every one of them still takes something from each sale, and Whop takes the least. Stan Store, Podia and Sellfy have no free plan.
Which Gumroad alternatives handle sales tax for you?
Payhip collects and pays EU and UK VAT and US and Canadian sales tax at no extra charge, and Lemon Squeezy is a full merchant of record. Whop handles US sales tax and EU and UK VAT on its Discover marketplace sales, and offers an optional 2% service for direct sales that remits in the US, EU and UK. Ko-fi, Stan Store, Podia and Sellfy leave remitting tax to you.
Can I take my Gumroad customers to another platform?
You can take their emails but not their payment details. Gumroad's sales CSV lists every buyer; remove anyone marked in the Do not contact? column before emailing. Memberships can't transfer because Gumroad is the merchant of record and keeps the cards, so subscribers re-subscribe wherever you go. One-time buyers keep their Gumroad downloads either way.
Is Payhip better than Gumroad?
On cost, yes. At $10,000 a month in $20 sales, Payhip costs $539 on its Pro plan against $1,690 on Gumroad, and it also collects and pays EU and UK VAT and US and Canadian sales tax for you. Gumroad keeps two advantages: its Discover marketplace and tax coverage in every country, beyond the regions Payhip lists.
Is Lemon Squeezy still a good Gumroad alternative in 2026?
It still works, but plan for change. In January 2026 Lemon Squeezy said it is being folded into Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe's own merchant-of-record service, and that it will give users a way to migrate. Stripe prices Managed Payments at 3.5% per transaction on top of its standard processing fees, so your costs could change after a move.
What are sites like Gumroad for selling memberships?
Whop, Payhip, Podia, Stan Store and Ko-fi all sell recurring memberships. Whop adds chat, forums, courses and Discord access to the membership itself (Discord's app listing mentions a 3% fee that Whop's fee page doesn't list), Podia and Stan Store include community features, and Ko-fi and Payhip keep things simpler. Whichever you pick, existing Gumroad members have to sign up and enter a card again on the new platform.
