Move from Gumroad to Whop: What Transfers and How to Switch
MoveToWhop is independent and not affiliated with Whop, Inc. or any platform we cover. We may earn a referral commission from Whop when you create a Whop through our links. It never costs you anything, and it's how we keep migrations free. How we make money
Quick answer
Your Gumroad products, course outline and customer list can move to Whop, but membership billing can't. Gumroad is the merchant of record and holds the cards, so subscribers re-subscribe on Whop with a free trial that runs to their next Gumroad renewal, and one-time buyers get a free claim link. On a $25/month membership, fees drop from about 16.1% to 4.4% of each charge, before Whop's $0.07 fraud-screening fee.
What moves
Gumroad to Whop at a glance
This is what the free migration tool does for Gumroad today. Rows marked Guided or From your export need some input from you: a confirmation in the wizard or the file Gumroad gives you.
Products & pricing
MovesYou confirm your products and prices in the wizard (prefilled where we can). We create matching Whop products and pricing plans through Whop's official API.
Courses
MovesPaste or import your course outline and we create the chapters and lessons in Whop Courses. Video files don't transfer automatically: re-upload them in Whop or embed them from YouTube or Loom.
Members
From exportUpload the member export from Gumroad. We clean it and set up a hidden "Existing members" option on Whop: free claim links for one-time buyers, and for subscribers, a plan with a free trial that lines up their first Whop charge with their next Gumroad renewal. Whop's API can't add members directly, so members claim access from the link you send.
Community
MovesWe create Whop Forums and Chat with a pinned welcome post. Old posts and comments don't move, because Whop's API would post them as you, dated today.
Paying subscribers
Re-subscribeGumroad is the merchant of record, so membership subscribers re-subscribe on Whop. One-time buyers can get free access with a claim link.

What transfers from Gumroad to Whop
Your products, prices, course outlines and customer list come across with you confirming each step in the wizard. Billing, files, community chat history and license keys don't transfer. The "What moves" table on this page shows the support level for each item; here is what it means for a Gumroad store.
Products, tiers and prices
You confirm each product in our free Gumroad migration wizard, and we create it on Whop with its plans through Whop's official API. Tiers that differ only in price or billing period can be plans on one Whop product. If your tiers unlock different content, make each tier its own Whop product. Gumroad discount codes don't come across, so recreate them as Whop promo codes.
Course content and files
Gumroad keeps course material on a product's content pages, which form a flat list with no modules. Paste that outline into the wizard and we build Whop Courses chapters and lessons, including the text and any YouTube or Loom embeds.
Video files and downloads (PDFs, ZIPs, presets, templates) are not transferred, so upload them to Whop yourself. Gumroad's help center lists no bulk file export. If you've lost your originals, Gumroad's own account-deletion guide says to get your files back by making a test purchase of each product.
Customers and members
Your customer list comes from Gumroad's sales CSV. The member CSV converter cleans it into a Whop-ready list in your browser. The wizard then creates a hidden "Existing members" option on each Whop product: a free claim link for one-time buyers and, for subscribers, a matching plan with a free trial that ends on their next Gumroad renewal date. Whop's API can't add members directly, so each person claims access with their own Whop account.
Payments
Membership billing can't move. Gumroad has been the merchant of record for every sale since January 1, 2025, it runs card payments on its own processor, and new sellers can't connect their own Stripe account (Brazil is the only exception). Gumroad documents no card export or subscription transfer. Whop's Migrations tool only moves subscriptions from a Stripe account you own, so it has nothing to pick up from Gumroad. Our guide to moving subscriptions compares both paths.
Community and email subscribers
Gumroad Community is a chat space attached to each product, and its messages can't be exported. If your buyers used it, the wizard can add Whop's Chat and Forums apps to the product with a pinned welcome post.
Your subscriber export is a list of people who signed up for your updates, which can include people who never bought. Subscribers aren't members, so they don't get claim links. Keep that CSV so you can keep writing to them after the move. Whop has no built-in email marketing (no broadcasts, sequences or segments), so you'll write to them from an email app in Whop's App Store or your own email tool.
Export your data from Gumroad first
Download your sales CSV, your subscriber list and your payout reports before you change anything on Gumroad. The sales CSV comes from Sales → Export, where you pick a date range. These details matter for a migration:
- Pick a date range that starts before your oldest active membership began. Each renewal appears on its own row (the Recurring Charge? column shows a 1), so a member who has paid monthly for a year shows up 12 times.
- Filters you set on the Sales page don't carry into the export. To get one product's buyers, choose that product inside the export dialog.
- The columns you'll use most are Purchase Email, Item Name, Purchase Date, Recurrence, Cancellation Date, Subscription End Date and License Key. A filled Cancellation Date means that member has already cancelled, so leave them off your re-subscribe list.
- Remove buyers marked 1 in the Do not contact? column before you load the list into any email tool. Gumroad asks you to do this, and it protects your sender reputation.
- Large exports arrive by email rather than downloading in the browser. Payout reports come from the Payouts page.
How the switch works, step by step
The move takes nine steps. Members keep their Gumroad access throughout, so nobody is locked out while you set up Whop.
- Export your sales CSV, subscriber list and payout reports from Gumroad.
- Open the migration wizard and connect Whop with Sign in with Whop. We never ask for your Gumroad password.
- Confirm your products, tiers and prices, and we create them on Whop.
- Paste each course outline, then upload your videos and files in Whop.
- Upload the sales CSV. We create the hidden "Existing members" options: claim links for one-time buyers and trial-matched plans for subscribers.
- If you sell software, set up Whop license keys (see the license key section below).
- Unpublish your Gumroad products so new buyers land on Whop. Current members keep their access and billing on Gumroad until you cancel them.
- Email each group its link, then cancel each member's Gumroad membership once they've joined on Whop.
- Keep Gumroad open until your last payout lands and your last member has moved.
How to keep members and avoid double billing
A member pays twice only if their Gumroad membership renews after they've started paying on Whop. The fix is to line up the first Whop charge with the Gumroad renewal it replaces, then cancel the Gumroad side.
- Gumroad always bills a member on the same day of the month they first bought, and you can't change that date. The Purchase Date column tells you each member's renewal day.
- The free trial on the Whop plan runs until that day, so the first Whop charge takes the place of the next Gumroad charge.
- Once someone joins on Whop, cancel their Gumroad membership: Sales, search their email, Cancel subscription. They keep Gumroad access until the end of the period they already paid for.
- Pick a cutoff date at least one full billing cycle away, so every member gets a reminder before a renewal. After the cutoff, cancel the remaining Gumroad memberships one by one.
- Don't delete a membership product to cancel everyone at once. Deletion stops every member's billing and access immediately, including people who haven't moved yet.
Email template for your Gumroad members
Send this from whichever email tool you use, to the list you cleaned above. Our announcement templates include reminder and last-call versions.
Subject: Your [membership name] is moving to Whop
Hi [first name],
On [date], [membership name] moves from Gumroad to Whop. What you get and what you pay ([price] a month) stay the same.
- Open your link: [Whop link]
- Sign in to Whop, or create a free account, with this email address.
- Add your card. You won't be charged until [renewal date], the day Gumroad would have charged you.
Once you've joined, I'll cancel your Gumroad membership so you're never billed twice. After [cutoff date], I'll cancel any remaining Gumroad memberships, and you'll keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

[Your name]
For one-time buyers, a two-line note works: tell them where to claim free access on Whop and that their Gumroad download keeps working.
What happens to your license keys
Your Gumroad license keys stay on Gumroad. Gumroad generates them, your software checks them against Gumroad's API, and neither Gumroad nor Whop documents a way to import existing keys. Our migration tool doesn't move license keys either, so plan a switchover instead of a transfer.
Whop has its own key system. Its Software app gives each buyer a unique key, and your software validates that key through Whop's API. You can bind a key to one machine by storing a hardware ID in its metadata, and buyers can reset that binding from their orders.
A switchover that doesn't lock anyone out:
- Keep your Gumroad account open and your app's Gumroad check working, so existing keys keep validating.
- Add the Software app to your Whop product, then ship an app update that accepts either a Gumroad key or a Whop key.
- Send past buyers their free claim link. A claim creates a Whop membership, which carries its own Whop key. Test this with your own email before you send it to anyone.
- Keep your Gumroad sales CSV. Its License Key, License Key Activation Count and License Key Enabled? columns record who owns which old key.
- Announce a date after which new activations need a Whop key, and remove the Gumroad check only after that date.
Gumroad vs Whop fees at your revenue
On a $25/month membership, Gumroad's fees take about 16.1% of each charge and Whop's take 4.4%, or 4.7% with its $0.07 Radar fraud-screening charge. At $10,000 a month, that's about $1,140 to $1,170 more in your pocket every month.
Prices as of October 2026. Sources at the end of this page.
| Monthly membership revenue | Charges at $25 | Gumroad fees | Whop fees | Extra you keep on Whop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 | 40 | $161 | $44 | $117 a month ($1,404 a year) |
| $10,000 | 400 | $1,610 | $440 | $1,170 a month ($14,040 a year) |
| $50,000 | 2,000 | $6,550 | $2,200 | $4,350 a month ($52,200 a year) |
How the numbers work: Gumroad fees = charges × ($25 × 12.9% + $0.80), which is Gumroad's 10% + $0.50 plus 2.9% + $0.30 card processing. Whop fees = charges × ($25 × 3.2% + $0.30), which is 2.7% + $0.30 processing plus the 0.5% billing fee Whop's fee page lists for subscriptions when enabled. All examples assume US cards and leave out Whop's other add-ons (orchestration, tax), Radar and 3D Secure charges, payout fees and currency conversion.
The $50,000 row applies Gumroad's high-volume rate: once your paid sales in a calendar month pass $20,000, new direct sales that month pay 5% + $0.50 instead of 10% + $0.50. Gumroad's help center says this happens automatically, but its public code shows the rate is switched on seller by seller, so check the Fees ($) column in your export. Without the discount, the $50,000 row would cost $8,050 on Gumroad.
A few costs sit outside the table. Gumroad Discover sales pay a flat 30% instead. Whop also lists fraud-screening charges of $0.07 per transaction and $0.03 when 3D Secure runs. If you gate a Discord server or Telegram group, Whop's fee page lists no extra fee, but each app's listing says it adds 3% to payments on that product. Including Radar, Whop takes $1.17 (4.7%) of a $25 charge without that 3%; with it, $1.92 (7.7%). Budget for it until Whop resolves the conflict.
One-time products show a similar gap: a $29 template costs $4.54 in Gumroad fees on a direct sale and $1.08 on Whop ($1.15 with Radar). Run your own mix in the fee calculator, or see each charge explained in our Gumroad fees breakdown.
What you'll rebuild by hand
Most of the manual work is files and marketing setup. Here is the list, roughly from most to least effort:
- Upload your files and videos to Whop, in the Files app or inside course lessons. The work grows with the size of your library.
- Recreate any Gumroad Workflows and email sequences you still use, before your first member announcement. Whop has no built-in email marketing (no broadcasts, sequences or segments). It sends welcome and goodbye messages with an optional email copy, forum posts by email and transactional emails, so rebuild sequences in an email app from Whop's App Store or your own email tool.
- Recreate discount codes as Whop promo codes, with the same percentage or flat amount, limits and expiry dates.
- Rebuild upsells. Whop introduced locked add-ons sold before or after checkout in 2025, but its current Help Center doesn't document them, so confirm they appear in your dashboard or use an upsell app from Whop's App Store. Whop doesn't document native one-click post-purchase upsells.
- Set your affiliate rate on Whop and invite your affiliates again. Whop charges a 1.25% processing fee on affiliate-referred sales.
- Update every link that points to Gumroad: your bio, YouTube descriptions, website, pinned posts and email signatures.
- Leave product ratings behind. Your sales CSV keeps a copy of each buyer's rating and review for your records.
Should you switch from Gumroad to Whop?
Switch if fees are your biggest cost or you sell memberships that would benefit from courses and community. Stay if Gumroad's worldwide tax handling or its Discover traffic does work you'd otherwise have to pay for.
Switching makes sense if:
- You make more than a few hundred dollars a month. The fee gap is about 10 percentage points on most direct sales (about 5 points above Gumroad's $20,000-a-month high-volume threshold, and less if the Discord or Telegram app's 3% applies).
- You run a membership and want courses, chat, forums or Discord server access inside the same product. (The Discord app may add 3%; see the fee section above.)
- Gumroad's $100 payout minimum (raised from $10 on March 23, 2026) or its 7-day hold strains your cash flow. Whop's minimum withdrawal is $10, and sale money becomes available in 1 to 4 business days. Standard payouts then take up to 5 business days (or pay for next-day or instant), and Whop can hold a reserve on new accounts.
Stay on Gumroad if:
- A large share of your buyers come from Discover. Count the rows marked 1 in the Discover? column. Those sales cost 30%, but Whop won't send you the same shoppers.
- You sell worldwide and want zero tax admin. Gumroad collects and remits sales tax and VAT on every sale. On Whop, having Whop collect tax on direct sales costs 2%, and Whop only files and remits in the US, EU and UK.
- Your software checks Gumroad license keys and you can't ship an app update right now.
If you're still weighing options, we rank the best Gumroad alternatives by fees, and our Whop vs Gumroad comparison goes feature by feature. If you also run a Stan link-in-bio shop, the Stan Store to Whop playbook follows the same re-subscribe process.
After the move: launch checklist
Check these before you email a single member:
- Make a test purchase on Whop and confirm access, files and, for software, a working license key.
- Claim one "Existing members" link with a second email address to see exactly what members will see.
- Set up payouts on Whop and finish identity verification early. A next-day ACH payout to a US bank costs $2.50.
- If anything you sell costs more than $2,500, apply for higher checkout links. Whop caps them at $2,500 for new accounts and reviews applications within 24 hours; a new business may need a 60-day reserve instead.
- Replace every Gumroad link, starting with the ones that get the most clicks.
- Until your cutoff date, check that new Whop members match the Gumroad memberships you've cancelled.
- Close Gumroad last. Your remaining balance pays out once it reaches $100, and deleting the account forfeits anything unpaid. Download your final sales and payout CSVs first.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move my Gumroad subscribers to Whop without them re-entering a card?
No. Gumroad is the merchant of record and charges cards on its own processor, and it documents no card export or subscription transfer. Whop's Migrations tool only moves subscriptions from a Stripe account you own. Members add a card on Whop instead, and the free trial on their Whop plan runs until their next Gumroad renewal date, so nobody pays early or twice.
Will my one-time Gumroad buyers lose access to what they bought?
No. Gumroad keeps files available to customers who already bought or downloaded them, even if you delete your account later. Send past buyers a free Whop claim link when the product still gets updates, such as templates, presets or software, so new versions reach them on Whop. Buyers of a finished ebook can simply keep their Gumroad download.
Can I import my Gumroad license keys into Whop?
No. Gumroad generates its own keys and says it has no way to import keys, and Whop documents no key import either. Whop's Software app issues a new key for each Whop membership. Keep your app accepting Gumroad keys while past buyers claim free Whop access and receive Whop keys, then retire the Gumroad check on a date you announce in advance.
What happens to my Gumroad balance after I stop selling?
It still pays out on your normal schedule once it reaches Gumroad's $100 minimum, which has applied since March 23, 2026. Deleting your account with an unpaid balance forfeits it. US creators with at least one completed payout and 60 days of processing can take an instant payout of any settled amount from $1, for a 3% fee.
Should I delete my Gumroad membership product after moving?
Not until everyone has moved. Deleting a membership product cancels every member's subscription and removes their access immediately. Unpublish it instead: new buyers can no longer find or buy it, while current members keep access and billing until you cancel each one from the Sales page after they have joined you on Whop.
Does the migration tool need my Gumroad password?
No. We never ask for passwords. Your Gumroad data comes from the sales CSV and subscriber export you download yourself, and you connect Whop through Whop's official Sign in with Whop. The tool then creates your products, plans, course structure and member claim links on your own Whop account through Whop's API.
Will Whop's marketplace replace Gumroad Discover?
It can add buyers at a lower cost, but don't count on the same traffic. Whop's published marketplace commission has been 0% since May 12, 2025 (down from 30%), so Whop Discover sales pay normal processing, while Gumroad Discover takes a flat 30%. Each marketplace has its own shoppers, so check the Discover? column in your Gumroad sales CSV to see how much you rely on it.
