Whop vs FanBasis (Now Commas): Fees, Payouts and Which to Pick
MoveToWhop is independent and not affiliated with Whop, Inc. or any platform we cover. We may earn a referral commission from Whop when you create a Whop through our links. It never costs you anything, and it's how we keep migrations free. How we make money
Quick answer
FanBasis renamed itself Commas on July 14, 2026, and it still doesn't publish its fees: its FAQ says selling is free to start, and its terms say rates are set per account. Whop charges no monthly fee and 2.7% + $0.30 per US card sale, plus 0.5% billing on subscriptions when enabled. Commas leads with buyer financing from nine providers. Whop suits memberships and communities, and you can work out its standard costs before you sign up.
Our verdict
Choose Whop if
you want published fees you can model today, a $0 start, and courses, chat and Discord or Telegram access for a membership business
Choose FanBasis (now Commas) if
you sell high-ticket offers through a sales team, want its nine built-in financing providers, and are comfortable negotiating rates it doesn't publish

Pricing and fees: what you actually pay
Whop publishes its standard fee schedule, and Commas, the new name for FanBasis, publishes none. A few Whop lines have no public rate, such as its optional Economic Intelligence add-on, and a 3% app fee is unsettled (more below). So the honest FanBasis vs Whop comparison is Whop's real numbers next to the rate Commas would have to quote to beat them.
Commas' homepage FAQ says it's free to start selling and that Commas makes money when you do. Its terms, last updated July 1, 2026, add that fees vary by the features you turn on and can include subscription fees, transaction fees, commissions or usage-based charges, set out in your dashboard, in pricing documentation or in a separate agreement. Commas can also revise fees at any time, with or without notice. ProcessorVerdict, a third-party payments site, reported on September 27, 2026 that it found no published Commas processing rate, payout fee or chargeback fee.
Whop's standard schedule is public: $0 a month, 2.7% + $0.30 per successful US card payment, 0.5% on subscription charges when billing is enabled, 1.5% more for international cards and 1% more for currency conversion (docs.whop.com/fees, checked October 3, 2026).
Prices as of October 2026, from each company's public pricing and help pages. Sources at the end of this page.
| Monthly revenue ($49 monthly membership) | Whop fees | Whop's effective rate | FanBasis (Commas) fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1,000 (about 20 payments) | $38 | 3.8% | Not published (Oct 2026) |
| $10,000 (about 204 payments) | $381 | 3.8% | Not published (Oct 2026) |
| $50,000 (about 1,020 payments) | $1,906 | 3.8% | Not published (Oct 2026) |
How we calculated it: Whop fees = revenue × 3.2% (2.7% processing + 0.5% billing) + $0.30 × number of payments, for US cards with billing enabled and no other add-ons, payout fees, currency conversion or taxes, rounded to whole dollars. If Whop's $0.07 Radar fee applies to every payment, add about $14 at $10,000. The effective rate is the number a Commas quote has to beat, after you add any Commas subscription, billing and payout fees.
What a $2,000 program costs on Whop
If you sell one big program instead of a membership, the cost per sale matters more than the monthly math. Here's what Whop takes from a single $2,000 one-time sale, which skips the 0.5% billing fee.
Fees as of October 2026. Sources at the end of this page.
| How the buyer pays | Whop fee | Share of the sale |
|---|---|---|
| US card | $54.30 | 2.7% |
| International card with currency conversion | $104.30 | 5.2% |
| US bank debit (ACH) | $5.00 | 0.25% |
| Crypto | $30.00 | 1.5% |
| PayPal | $70.29 | 3.5% |
| Financing partner (Klarna, Afterpay and others) | $300.00 | 15% |
ACH is capped at $5 per payment, so it's by far the cheapest way for a buyer to pay a large invoice on Whop. Financing is the most expensive. Put your own price and sales count into the Whop fee calculator, and see every Whop fee explained for disputes, payouts and add-ons.
Questions to ask Commas before you sign
Get these answers in writing, so you can compare them with the tables above:
- What's my all-in rate per US card payment, and is there a monthly or subscription fee?
- What do international cards, currency conversion and subscription billing add?
- What does each financing provider cost me per sale, and who qualifies?
- What are the payout fees for ACH, instant payouts and wires, and how long do standard payouts take?
- Will a new account have a reserve, and at what percentage and for how long?
- What's the fee per chargeback?
- How much notice do I get before a fee change?
This page explains published fees. It isn't financial or tax advice.
Payments and payouts
Both companies sit between you and the buyer, so both decide when you get paid. Whop publishes its payout schedule and fees; Commas publishes its payout rails and speed but not its fees.
On Whop, Whop is the merchant of record and sales land in your Whop balance. Sales tax on direct sales is opt-in: Whop's tax service costs 2% when enabled and remits in the US, EU and UK, and existing businesses default to handling tax themselves. Whop handles tax on Discover sales. Proceeds become withdrawable in 1 to 4 business days, standard payouts take up to 5 business days (Whop's troubleshooting page says to allow up to 10), and instant payouts arrive in minutes for 4% + $1. Next-day ACH costs $2.50 and a wire $23, the minimum withdrawal is $10, and Whop pays out to more than 200 countries once you've passed identity verification. Our guide to Whop payouts and KYC walks through each step.
On Commas, the terms make Commas the contracting merchant on every sale, with processing run through regulated payment partners. Its FAQ says sales land in your Commas balance as they clear and instant payouts can pay you as early as the same day, and its payments page lists payouts by ACH, RTP, wire, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App and crypto. Commas says sellers in more than 100 countries get paid.
Both sets of terms allow long holds. Whop's Seller Terms allow reserves of up to 100% of funds for up to 180 days, and its reserves page gives 10% of each sale for 90 days as an example for new or higher-risk accounts. Commas' terms allow holds of up to 180 days, or longer if a payment partner requires it.
Bottom line: get the hold and payout terms you're offered in writing. Whop's standard costs are published before you start, apart from the open 3% question on its Discord and Telegram apps and a few optional or account-specific lines with no public rate, while Commas' depend on your quote.
Financing and high-ticket sales
Financing is a headline feature on Commas' payments page, and the two platforms handle it very differently. It matters most if you sell programs in the thousands of dollars over sales calls.
Commas' payments page lists nine buy-now-pay-later providers built in, with financing from $30 to $465,000, and says sellers get paid in full upfront. Its homepage adds a lead tool called Qualifier, which Commas says enriches each lead with income, credit and net worth so closers know which financing to offer. It doesn't publish what financing costs you or who qualifies.
Whop lists 13 financing options, including Klarna, Afterpay, Splitit, Sezzle and ClarityPay, at 15% per financed sale (SeQura costs about 3%). To apply, your account needs at least $30,000 processed from 10 or more customers in the last 90 days and a dispute rate below 2%. Trading signals and betting are among the categories Whop's financing partners don't support, and Whop holds 15% of every Splitit sale for 180 days. New Whop accounts also can't create checkout links above $2,500 until Whop approves a higher limit, which it says takes up to 24 hours, or until you accept a 60-day reserve. Without financing approval, you can still offer split pay (installments) on a Whop checkout link.
Bottom line: a new high-ticket business that needs financing on day one will find Whop's rules restrictive. An established seller can qualify on Whop and knows the 15% cost upfront.
Courses, community and selling tools
Both platforms host courses and paid communities. Whop builds around apps you attach to a product, and Commas builds around a branded hub plus sales tools.
Whop's apps include Courses, Chat, Forums, built-in livestreaming, Events with optional ticketing, Content, Files and Calendar Bookings, plus Discord and Telegram apps that hand out access to your server or group. Whop's fee page lists no fee for those two apps, but their App Store listings say adding either one brings a 3% fee on that product's payments, and we couldn't confirm which applies. Budget for it until Whop settles the conflict: on a $49 monthly membership, Whop's fee per payment with billing enabled is about $1.87 (3.8%) without the 3% and $3.34 (6.8%) with it. Whop also runs Discover, a marketplace whose published commission has been 0% since May 12, 2025.
Commas puts courses and paid communities inside a branded Studio. Around it sit an AI funnel builder with conditional paths and A/B tests, webinars with checkout inside the room, an affiliate system, invoices, and a REST API with SDKs for Node, Python, PHP and Ruby.
Whop's selling tools center on its checkout. Checkout links can carry your branding and offer free trials and split pay, multi-item carts arrived on October 1, 2026, and you can embed the checkout on your own site. Since late August 2026, Whop also hosts free websites at a whop.site address, built by describing the site to Whop's AI, starting from a blueprint, writing code, or pasting your current site's URL to have Whop rebuild it (since October 2, 2026), with checkout and Whop's tracking pixel built in. Since October 1, 2026, those sites can also run full ecommerce stores with variants and inventory. It also runs an affiliate program and Whop Ads, an ads manager for Meta campaigns. Whop also has invoices, a REST API with TypeScript, Python and Ruby SDKs, a CLI and hosted MCP server, and Whop AI, an agent that can build your site and products from a chat.
Whop has no drag-and-drop page or funnel builder: you edit sites through AI chat or code, and custom domains currently need Whop's API. There's no documented dashboard A/B testing for checkouts, though Whop has an Experiments API and A/B creative tests in Whop Ads. Native one-click upsells aren't documented, but App Store apps add order bumps and upsells. We couldn't find Whop's 2025 locked-app upsell feature in its current help docs or dashboard settings, so confirm it before you rely on it.
Bottom line: if your business is a membership with a community, Whop's apps and marketplace fit it well. If your sales run through webinars and closers, look closely at Commas' sales tools.
When FanBasis (Commas) is the better choice
Commas is the better pick in a few clear situations:
- You sell high-ticket programs through a sales team and need financing early. Commas lists nine financing providers and a lead-scoring tool for closers, while Whop's financing needs $30,000 of recent processing first.
- Your tickets are very large. Commas says its financing covers sales of up to $465,000, while the highest fixed limit among Whop's 13 financing options is Splitit's $40,000, and only with approval.
- You're big enough to negotiate. Quote-based pricing can work in your favor at high volume, and Commas says larger sellers get a hands-on migration and an implementation engineer.
When Whop is the better choice
Whop is the better choice when predictable costs and community features matter more than financing reach:
- You want to know your fees before you launch. Whop's standard fee schedule is public, so you can model your margins from the first sale, apart from the open 3% app-fee question and optional extras with no public rate.
- You run a membership, course or paid community, especially one tied to Discord or Telegram.
- You need payouts outside the biggest markets. Whop pays out to 200+ countries, against 100+ for Commas.
- You'd like free exposure. Discover lists your product with a 0% published marketplace commission.
- Your subscriptions already live in your own Stripe account. Whop Migrations can move active card subscriptions with each member's saved card and renewal date.
Whop has real limitations too. New accounts face the $2,500 checkout cap and can have part of each sale held in reserve. Financing waits until you've processed $30,000. Card payments run through Whop Payments, not your own Stripe account. The 3% question on the Discord and Telegram apps is still open. And our Whop review collects seller reports of payout holds and hard-to-escalate support.
What creators say
Public feedback on both platforms is mixed and thin on the seller side, so treat these as anecdotes rather than trends.
- Commas' Trustpilot page showed a TrustScore of 2.7 from 252 reviews on October 3, 2026. Many reviewers are buyers of businesses that use its checkout. On the seller side, one February 2026 review said $10,000 was withheld without a reason and that a promised release after 120 days hadn't happened six months later, while an October 2, 2026 review praised fast support and said the extra payment options closed a paid-in-full sale.
- Whop's Trustpilot page shows no rating at all. Trustpilot's notice says the rating is unavailable because of a breach of its guidelines and that it removed a number of fake reviews, with about 3,020 reviews left. A seller wrote on September 26, 2026 that most of a balance of nearly $500 was stuck as pending, with reserves and settlement times they hadn't expected.
Switching from FanBasis to Whop
Saved cards won't follow you. Commas' terms make it the contracting merchant on every sale, so subscriptions don't sit in a Stripe account you own, and Whop Migrations only moves subscriptions from your own Stripe. Every paying member re-subscribes on Whop.
Commas says your data is exportable at any time, so start with a customer and subscription export. FanBasis doesn't have its own importer in the free MoveToWhop migration tool, so use its "Something else? Use a CSV" option to create your Whop products, plans and member links. Give each subscriber a hidden plan with a free trial that ends on their next Commas billing date, then cancel the Commas subscription once they've joined. Our guide to moving paid subscriptions covers the timing, and if you're weighing Whop against running payments yourself, see Whop vs Stripe.
How we compared
We read each company's public pages on October 3, 2026: Whop's fee page, help docs, pricing page, Seller Terms and App Store listings, and Commas' homepage FAQ, payments page, rename announcement and terms (last updated July 1, 2026). We didn't request a sales quote from Commas or run live payments on either platform. Every Commas fee cell marked "Not published" means we couldn't find the number in Commas' public materials on that date, not that the fee doesn't exist. Whop membership examples use US cards with the 0.5% billing add-on enabled and no other add-ons, rounded to whole dollars. Single-sale examples are one-time, skip billing and show cents. Neither includes payout fees.

Frequently asked questions
Is Whop better than FanBasis?
For memberships, courses and paid communities, Whop is easier to choose because its standard fees are published: 2.7% + $0.30 per US card sale, plus 0.5% billing on subscriptions when enabled, with no monthly fee. FanBasis, now Commas, leads with nine financing providers and tools for sales teams, but you only learn its rates from a quote. Which is better depends on that quote.
FanBasis vs Whop fees: which is cheaper?
We can't say, because Commas doesn't publish its rates. Whop costs about 3.8% of revenue on a $49 monthly membership paid by US card with billing enabled (3.3% without it), or 2.7% on a $2,000 one-time program. For Commas to be cheaper, its all-in quote, including payout and subscription fees, has to come in below those rates for your price and payment mix.
What happened to FanBasis?
It changed its name. FanBasis became Commas on July 14, 2026, and the company says the team, platform and seller accounts carried over. Commas is operated by FanBasis, Inc., fanbasis.com now redirects to commas.com, and existing sellers sign in at commas.com/login. Older reviews and guides that mention FanBasis describe the same company, which raised a $20 million Series A led by Left Lane Capital in May 2025.
Does FanBasis charge a monthly fee?
Its homepage FAQ says it's free to start selling and that it makes money when you do. Commas' terms, last updated July 1, 2026, say fees depend on the features you turn on and can include subscription fees, transaction fees, commissions or usage charges, shown in your dashboard or a separate agreement. Ask for your full fee schedule in writing.
Which is better for high-ticket coaching offers?
Commas has the edge on paper for sales-led, high-ticket offers. It lists nine financing providers covering $30 to $465,000 and a lead-scoring tool for closers. Whop's 13 financing options cost 15% per sale (SeQura about 3%) and need $30,000 processed from 10 or more customers in 90 days, and new accounts can't sell above $2,500 per checkout link until Whop approves it.
Can I use both Whop and FanBasis?
Yes, as separate storefronts, for example a high-ticket program checked out on Commas and a monthly community on Whop. The catch is access. A Commas buyer doesn't get into your Whop automatically, because Whop's API can't add members directly. Send those buyers a free Whop claim link for the community, and keep track of who has claimed it.
Can I move my FanBasis subscribers to Whop?
Not their saved cards. Commas' terms make it the contracting merchant on every sale, so subscriptions don't live in a Stripe account you own, and Whop Migrations only moves subscriptions from your own Stripe. Members re-subscribe on Whop. Give them a hidden plan with a free trial that ends on their next Commas billing date, then cancel the old subscription.
