Migrate Stripe Subscriptions to Whop: What Moves and What Doesn't

By MoveToWhopUpdated 11 min readPricing verified

MoveToWhop is independent and not affiliated with Whop, Inc. or any platform we cover. We may earn a referral commission from Whop when you create a Whop through our links. It never costs you anything, and it's how we keep migrations free. How we make money

Quick answer

Whop Migrations copies active and trialing card subscriptions of $1 or more, with each customer's card token and renewal date, from a Stripe account you own. You enter your Stripe keys under Settings → Migrations, add Whop's email to your Stripe team as a Data migration specialist, review the preview and start. Your Stripe subscriptions are then set to cancel at period end. Link, ACH, SEPA, past-due and email-less subscriptions stay behind.

What transfers from Stripe to Whop

Whop Migrations moves the billing relationship: each eligible subscription, the card saved on it and its renewal date. Whop's announcement doesn't mention products, prices or coupons, and the tool skips anything that isn't an active or trialing card subscription.

Migration rules as of October 2026, from Whop's Migrations announcement (June 17, 2026). Sources at the end of this page.

WhatMoves to Whop?Notes
Active card subscriptionsYesBilling continues on each member's normal renewal date
Trialing subscriptionsYesThe only other status Whop accepts
Saved cardsYesCopied as payment tokens through what Whop calls a PCI-compliant transfer, so members don't re-enter details
Subscriptions under $1No$1 is the minimum
Past-due, canceled or expired subscriptionsNoOnly active and trialing subscriptions qualify
Customers with no email in StripeNoAdd the email in Stripe, then run the migration again
Stripe Link, ACH, SEPA and other non-card methodsNoThose members re-subscribe on Whop
Card changes made after the transfer startsNoWhop uses the card on file when the transfer begins
Products, prices and couponsNot mentionedBuild your Whop products first and recreate discounts as Whop promo codes
Invoices and payment historyNot mentionedStays in Stripe, so keep the account open

Two gaps in Whop's documentation matter before you start. The announcement doesn't say how Stripe prices map to Whop products, and it doesn't describe how a migrated customer signs in to reach your content. Create a $1-a-month test subscription on your own card and email before you migrate, so you can see both answers from a member's side.

Can you use Whop Migrations?

You can if your members show up as active subscriptions in a Stripe account you can log in to. The Subscriptions page in your Stripe Dashboard (under Billing) is the list to check.

That includes:

  • Subscriptions you sell yourself through Stripe Checkout or Payment Links.
  • Tools that bill through your own Stripe: LaunchPass, Circle paywalls, Podia, Mighty Networks (web subscriptions) and LearnWorlds.
  • Kajabi, SamCart, Thinkific, ClickFunnels and InviteMember, for members who pay through the Stripe account you connected rather than the platform's own processor. ClickFunnels can bill renewals as Stripe invoices rather than subscriptions, so confirm its members appear on that Subscriptions page.

It leaves out:

  • Processors the platform controls: Kajabi Payments, Stan Store, Teachable Payments and SamCart's SamPay. Thinkific Payments is the exception, because Thinkific support can move those subscriptions into your own Stripe first.
  • Platforms that keep cards in your Stripe but run billing themselves, such as Memberful and Kartra. Whop finds no subscriptions there.
  • Merchants of record like Skool, Patreon and Gumroad, plus PayPal and Apple or Google in-app subscriptions.

Those members re-subscribe with a free trial that ends on their old renewal date. Our guide to transferring subscriptions from any platform covers that path, with a table for 19 platforms.

You also need the right Stripe login. Stripe's role docs let Administrators and Super Administrators both manage API keys and invite team members. A Developer can create keys but can't invite anyone, so ask the account owner if your role falls short.

People searching for a "Whop Stripe integration" usually want to keep their Stripe account and add Whop on top. Migrations copies subscriptions over, and it's the only Stripe connection Whop documents. Whop doesn't document a way to process its checkout through your own Stripe account, so after the move members pay through Whop Payments, and Whop's docs say Whop is the merchant of record there.

How to migrate Stripe subscriptions to Whop, step by step

Set up Whop and warn your members first, because the migration screens themselves are short. Steps 4 to 8 follow Whop's announcement. The rest is the preparation and cleanup around it.

  1. Build your Whop products and plans. Since Whop doesn't explain how Stripe prices map to Whop products, have your offer live on Whop before you migrate. The free migration tool creates products and plans through Whop's API from the prices you confirm.
  2. Clean up Stripe. Add missing customer emails, note which members pay with Link, ACH or SEPA, since they won't move, and set up your $1 test subscription.
  3. Warn your members. Stripe will email each one that their subscription is set to cancel, and receipts come from Whop afterward. Ask anyone who needs a new card on file to update it now. Copy-paste wording is in our migration announcement templates.
  4. Connect Stripe. In your Whop dashboard, open Settings → Migrations → Stripe and paste your publishable and secret keys from Stripe's Developers → API keys page. A secret key has unrestricted access to your Stripe account, so create a new one just for Whop (Create secret key). You can expire it later without breaking anything else that uses Stripe.
  5. Add Whop to your Stripe team. Copy the unique Whop email address on screen, then in Stripe go to Settings → Team, invite it and assign the Data migration specialist role. Stripe's docs say this role can view and edit customers and send data copies, but can't create or refund live payments, pay out money, manage API keys or change settings.
  6. Review the preview scan. Exclude any subscription by email or Stripe subscription ID: comped members, your own team, or anyone you'd rather move by hand.
  7. Start the migration. Whop schedules each moved Stripe subscription to cancel at the end of its current period and takes over billing from the next renewal, so nobody is charged twice.
  8. Download the CSV report. It lists what moved, what didn't and why. Fix what you can, such as missing emails, and run the migration again. Whop skips subscriptions it already moved.
  9. Close the loop. Send members who couldn't move a Whop link with a free trial that ends on their Stripe renewal date, and cancel their Stripe subscriptions at period end once they join. When you're finished migrating, expire the key you created and remove the Whop team member.

What your members experience

A migrated member keeps their card and renewal date, and they don't have to do anything. They will notice four things:

  • An email from Stripe saying their subscription is scheduled to cancel. Whop says Stripe sends it automatically, which can alarm anyone who wasn't warned.
  • Receipts and billing emails from Whop from the next renewal on. Tell members the charge will come from Whop, because an unrecognized charge can turn into a dispute, and Whop charges $15 per dispute.
  • A new place to log in. Check how your $1 test subscription appears on Whop and give members those exact steps.
  • Discord or Telegram changes. Bots that read Stripe status, such as LaunchPass, remove members or roles when the Stripe subscription ends. Connect Whop's Discord or Telegram access first and remove the old bot before the earliest period end. Our LaunchPass to Whop guide covers the role mapping.

If your old platform (Circle, Podia, or Kajabi with your own Stripe) ties access to the Stripe subscription, expect that access to end when each Stripe subscription does. Podia needs extra care: closing your Podia account cancels all its subscriptions, so don't close it until the migration has finished. If your community runs on Circle, our Circle to Whop playbook covers the rest of that move.

Stripe vs Whop fees after the move

On renewals, Whop's published rate is 3.2% + 37¢ per charge (2.7% + 30¢ for a domestic card, 0.5% billing when enabled and $0.07 for Radar) against 3.6% + 30¢ for Stripe with Billing. On plans above about $17.50 a month you pay a little less after the move. Below that, Whop costs slightly more. Two extras raise Whop above Stripe at any price: Whop's orchestration add-on and, if it applies, the 3% fee listed on Whop's Discord and Telegram apps.

Fees as of October 2026, from Whop's fee page, Whop's Migrations announcement and Stripe's pricing pages. Sources at the end of this page.

Monthly revenue ($29/mo plan)ChargesStripe with BillingWhopWhop with orchestration on
$1,00034$46$45$53
$10,000345$463$448$528
$50,0001,724$2,317$2,238$2,638

How we calculated it: fees = revenue × rate + (revenue ÷ $29) × fixed fee per charge. Stripe's rate is 2.9% plus 0.7% for Stripe Billing (3.6%), with 30¢ per charge and Radar included in its standard pricing. Whop's is 2.7% plus 0.5% billing, which its fee page lists as applying when enabled (3.2%), or 4.0% with 0.8% orchestration, with 30¢ plus $0.07 for Radar (37¢) per charge. Our fee calculator leaves Radar off unless you tick it, so its default Whop figure runs a little lower. The example assumes US cards and monthly billing, with no payout fees, taxes or currency conversion, rounded to whole dollars.

A few lines the table leaves out:

  • Whop's announcement lists orchestration at 0.8% as built in with an on/off toggle, while Whop's fee page lists it as optional. Check the setting after you migrate.
  • Whop's fee page also lists 3DS at $0.03 when it's required.
  • Stripe's standard payouts are free. Whop's fee page lists $2.50 per next-day ACH payout and 4% + $1 for instant bank deposits.
  • Sales referred by Whop affiliates carry a 1.25% affiliate processing fee on top of the commission you set (default 30% for global affiliates).
  • If a tool such as LaunchPass or Circle also takes a percentage today, you're paying more than the Stripe column shows.
  • If you'll gate a Discord server or Telegram group, as most LaunchPass sellers do, Whop's own sources disagree. Its fee page lists no extra fee, but the Discord and Telegram app listings say adding the app puts a 3% fee on that product's payments (both checked October 3, 2026). Budget for both cases: at $10,000 a month, Whop costs about $448 without the 3% or $748 with it, against $463 on Stripe.

Run your own numbers in the fee calculator, see every Whop charge in our Whop fees breakdown, or read the full Whop vs Stripe comparison. This page explains published fees. It isn't financial or tax advice.

What you'll rebuild by hand

Everything around the subscriptions. Whop Migrations moves billing, so the products, discounts and member experience are yours to set up:

  • Products, plans and checkout links. The migration tool creates these from the prices you confirm.
  • Coupons and promotion codes. Recreate them as Whop promo codes, which take a percentage or fixed amount off one payment, several months or every payment.
  • Free trials for new members. Whop allows them on recurring checkout links only.
  • Discord or Telegram access. Connect Whop's access apps and ask members to link their accounts.
  • Courses and downloads. Rebuild courses in Whop Courses, re-uploading videos or embedding them from YouTube or Loom, and put downloadable files in Whop's Files app or attach PDFs to lessons.
  • Automations that fire on Stripe events, such as webhooks, Zapier zaps and welcome emails. Point them at Whop's webhooks or Zapier triggers instead. Whop has no built-in email marketing (no broadcasts, sequences or segments). Its own welcome message is a DM with an optional email copy, so keep your email tool or add an email app from Whop's App Store.
  • Sales tax. Whop being the merchant of record doesn't mean it handles your sales tax by default. Pick one of three options: Whop calculates and collects while you remit (2% on transactions where tax is collected), Whop collects and remits in the US, EU and UK (2%), or you handle it yourself at no fee. Existing Whop businesses default to handling it themselves.
  • New sign-ups. Turn off your Stripe Payment Links and old checkout buttons so new members can't subscribe in Stripe.

Should you migrate your Stripe subscriptions to Whop?

Migrate if you want Whop to run checkout, delivery and billing in one place. Stay on Stripe if your business is built on Stripe's API and rebuilding that would cost more than the move saves.

Migrate if:

  • You sell a membership, course or paid community and pay a tool's fee on top of Stripe today.
  • Your preview scan shows that most members pay by card.
  • You want Whop's apps, marketplace or affiliate program.

Stay on Stripe if:

  • Your product is wired directly to Stripe's API, for example usage-based (metered) billing, Stripe-generated invoices or an app with its own Stripe checkout. Whop has invoices, an API and an embeddable checkout (Whop Elements), but you'd have to rebuild that integration, so check Whop's API docs for usage-based billing before you commit.
  • Many members pay with Link, ACH or SEPA. Every one of them would have to re-subscribe.
  • You want free standard payouts, or the option to take your card data to another processor later. Stripe documents a card-data export to other PCI DSS Level 1 processors. Whop's docs don't describe one (checked October 2026).

Also plan for reserves. Whop can hold part of a new account's balance back from payout. Its reserves page gives an example of 10% of each sale held for 90 days. If you move a large book of subscriptions into a brand-new Whop account, budget for that.

After the move: launch checklist

Work through this list on migration day and again after the first renewals:

  • Match the CSV report against Stripe. Every active and trialing subscription should appear as moved or not moved, with a reason.
  • Sign in as your test member and open everything you sell.
  • Buy your public plan once on Whop.
  • Turn off old Stripe Payment Links, and update the links in your bio, website and Discord.
  • Complete Whop's KYC (personal details, bank details and an ID upload, required before any withdrawal) and set up payouts before the first renewals. Sales become withdrawable in 1 to 4 business days, with a $10 minimum payout.
  • Watch the first renewal day in your Whop dashboard, then cancel your $1 test subscription.
  • Keep your Stripe account open. Refunds and disputes on charges Stripe processed still land there, and Stripe keeps your data available as long as you don't close the account.

Frequently asked questions

Will my members have to re-enter their cards?

Not if they pay by card. Whop Migrations copies each saved card as a payment token along with the subscription, and Whop says billing continues on the normal renewal date with no action from members. Members paying through Stripe Link, ACH or SEPA are the exception. Their subscriptions don't move, so send them a Whop checkout link with a free trial that ends on their Stripe renewal date.

Does Whop charge a fee to migrate from Stripe?

Whop's announcement lists no migration fee. After the move, Whop's published rates apply to each renewal: 2.7% + $0.30 for a domestic card, 0.5% for billing when enabled and $0.07 for Radar, per Whop's fee page (checked October 3, 2026). Orchestration adds 0.8% if it's on, so check that setting. If the product uses Whop's Discord or Telegram app, the app listings say a 3% fee applies on top, though the fee page lists none, so budget for both.

Can I connect my Stripe account to Whop instead of migrating?

Whop doesn't document an ongoing Stripe integration. The Stripe connection under Settings → Migrations exists to copy subscriptions over, and after that members pay through Whop Payments, where Whop's docs say Whop is the merchant of record. If you want to keep processing on your own Stripe account, keep selling through Stripe and a separate delivery tool instead of Whop's checkout.

Is it safe to give Whop my Stripe secret key?

Treat it like a password. Stripe says a secret key has unrestricted permissions on all its APIs, so create a dedicated key for the migration and expire it when you're done. The Data migration specialist role Whop asks for can't create or refund live payments, pay out money or change settings, per Stripe's role docs. You enter both in Whop's dashboard, never on Move to Whop.

Can I run Whop Migrations more than once?

Yes. Whop says it detects and skips subscriptions it already migrated, so a second run only picks up newly eligible ones. That helps after you add missing customer emails in Stripe, or after a past-due member pays and their subscription is active again. Keep the CSV report from each run as your record of what moved.

Does it work if I sell through LaunchPass, Circle or Kajabi?

LaunchPass, Circle paywalls, Podia, Mighty Networks and LearnWorlds bill through your own Stripe, so their card subscriptions qualify. Kajabi and SamCart work only for members billed through the Stripe account you connected. Kajabi Payments and SamPay subscriptions can't move. If your members appear on the Subscriptions page of your Stripe Dashboard, Whop can see them.

What happens to my Stripe account after the migration?

Each moved subscription stays active in Stripe until the end of the period the member already paid for, then cancels, and Whop charges the next renewal. Invoices, customers and payment history stay in Stripe, and refunds or disputes on Stripe charges still go through Stripe. Stripe keeps that data available as long as you don't close the account, so leave it open.
