Move from Thinkific to Whop: What Transfers and How to Switch

By MoveToWhopUpdated 15 min readPricing verified

MoveToWhop is independent and not affiliated with Whop, Inc. or any platform we cover. We may earn a referral commission from Whop when you create a Whop through our links. It never costs you anything, and it's how we keep migrations free. How we make money

Quick answer

Thinkific's user and order exports feed our free wizard, which rebuilds your products and course outlines on Whop, while you download videos one at a time and re-upload or embed them. Stripe Direct subscribers move with Whop Migrations, renewal dates intact. Thinkific Payments subscribers can follow once Thinkific support moves them to your own Stripe, or re-subscribe on a trial timed to their renewal. At $10,000 a month, fees run about $381 on Whop and $530 on Thinkific Start.

What moves

Thinkific to Whop at a glance

This is what the free migration tool does for Thinkific today. Rows marked Guided or From your export need some input from you: a confirmation in the wizard or the file Thinkific gives you.

  • Products & pricing

    Moves

You confirm your products and prices in the wizard (prefilled where we can). We create matching Whop products and pricing plans through Whop's official API.

  • Courses

    Moves

Paste or import your course outline and we create the chapters and lessons in Whop Courses. Video files don't transfer automatically: re-upload them in Whop or embed them from YouTube or Loom.

  • Members

    From export

Upload the member export from Thinkific. We clean it and set up a hidden "Existing members" option on Whop: free claim links for one-time buyers, and for subscribers who can't move with Whop's Stripe migration, a plan with a free trial that lines up their first Whop charge with their next Thinkific renewal. Whop's API can't add members directly, so members claim access from the link you send.

  • Community

    Moves

We create Whop Forums and Chat with a pinned welcome post. Old posts and comments don't move, because Whop's API would post them as you, dated today.

  • Paying subscribers

    Depends

Subscriptions on Stripe Direct live in your Stripe account, so Whop's Stripe migration can move the active card ones. Thinkific Payments subscriptions need Thinkific support to move them to your own Stripe first, which requires the Grow plan to connect Stripe.

Why Thinkific creators are pricing a move in 2026

Thinkific raised its Basic, Start and Grow plans by about 10% on August 13, 2026, its first subscription increase since 2022. Monthly prices went from $49 to $54 on Basic, $99 to $109 on Start and $199 to $219 on Grow, and the legacy Pro and Fixed Growth plans rose to $109 and $169. Monthly customers paid the new price from their first billing cycle on or after August 13, and yearly customers pay it at their next renewal.

The plan gates cost more than the increase. Thinkific puts memberships, subscriptions, payment plans, bundles and certificates on Start and above, so a membership business pays at least $109 a month before processing. Connecting your own Stripe account takes Grow at $219, and Thinkific then adds a 1% gateway fee to each Stripe sale, on up to $1 million in sales a calendar year. The rest of this page covers what moves to Whop, what you rebuild by hand, and how to bring paying students with you.

Thinkific pricing in October 2026

Thinkific sells three self-serve plans plus a custom Plus plan. Every self-serve plan includes unlimited courses and up to 10,000 current students, there's no free plan, and the free trial lasts 30 days. Paying yearly saves 25%.

Prices as of October 2026, from Thinkific's pricing page and help center. Sources at the end of this page.

Card processing comes on top. Thinkific Payments charges US creators 2.9% + 30¢ per card payment, plus 0.7% on subscription and payment-plan charges, 1.5% on international cards and 1% when currency conversion applies. Its sales tax service is mandatory for sales to US and Canadian students and adds a 0.5% fee to each of those sales, even when the tax works out to 0%. A branded mobile app costs another $199 a month.

What moves from Thinkific to Whop

Most of a Thinkific school moves through export files and the wizard, and unlike Teachable or Kajabi Payments, Thinkific Payments has a documented way to hand subscriptions back to your own Stripe account. The migration table on this page shows the support level for each asset.

Students and customers

Thinkific's user export sits under Users, then All Users, then Export, on Basic and above. The CSV arrives by email and contains only the columns visible in your user table, so switch on every column you need before you export. Under Sales, then Orders, the Export button offers two files: Orders, with one row per purchase, and Transactions, with one row per payment. The Transactions file has a Provider column showing whether each payment ran through Thinkific Payments, Stripe or PayPal, which is how you sort subscribers in the payments step below.

Run those files through the member CSV converter to get a clean, de-duplicated list in your browser. Whop's API has no way to add someone to a product for you, so nobody is enrolled silently. Each student opens a private link and claims access with their email address.

Products and prices

Each Thinkific product becomes a Whop product with a matching plan. One-time courses map to one-time plans, subscriptions to recurring plans with the same billing period, and Thinkific free trials to Whop free trials. You confirm each product in the wizard, which prefills what it can, and we create them through Whop's official API. A Thinkific bundle can become one Whop product with each of its courses attached.

Payment plans need a decision before you move. Thinkific keeps charging installments until they finish, even after you cancel your plan, so either let them run out first or close them and give those buyers free access on Whop.

Courses

Thinkific has no whole-course export. Its help center says you can't download a course as one file and there's no bulk download, so you save each piece separately.

  • Videos come out one at a time from Products, then Video Library, then the three-dot menu next to each video, then Download. Sites created on or after January 28, 2026 use the Asset Library under Products instead.
  • PDFs and audio files download from the button inside each lesson in the course builder.
  • Text lessons, quiz questions and survey content have to be copied and pasted, because Thinkific has no direct quiz export.

Paste each outline into the wizard and we create the Whop course with chapters, lessons, lesson text and YouTube or Loom embeds. Video files don't transfer automatically, so upload the files you downloaded or embed them from unlisted YouTube or Loom videos. Whop's Courses app covers video, text, PDF and quiz lessons, completion certificates and required lesson order, which fits most Thinkific courses; assignments are the exception covered in the rebuild table below.

Student progress stays behind, because Whop only lets each student mark their own lessons complete. If completion history matters, export Thinkific's progress report for each course first, under Student Progress, then Progress reports, then Export CSV.

Community and lesson discussions

We create Whop Forums and Chat with a pinned welcome post. Your Thinkific community posts stay behind, including lesson discussions from the new course builder, which Thinkific stores as posts in a linked community space. Whop's API posts as you and dates every post today, so copy or screenshot the threads worth keeping, and decide where lesson conversations will live on Whop. One forum per course keeps them easy to find.

Payments: Stripe Direct, Thinkific Payments or PayPal

The Provider column in your Transactions export splits paying students into three groups, and each group moves differently.

Students billed through Stripe, Thinkific's direct Stripe connection on Grow and above, have real subscriptions in your own Stripe account. Whop Migrations, under Dashboard, then Settings, then Migrations, moves active and trialing card subscriptions of $1 or more that have an email address, keeps each renewal date, and sets the Stripe subscriptions to cancel at the end of their current period. Subscriptions paid with Stripe Link, ACH or SEPA don't qualify.

Students billed through Thinkific Payments have two routes.

  1. Ask Thinkific to move them to your Stripe first. Thinkific's help center documents the process: connect your own Stripe account, which needs Grow or higher; email payments-support@thinkific.com with your Stripe Standard account ID, which starts with acct_; accept the customer information transfer that appears as a banner in Stripe's Customers tab; then contact Stripe support with the list of active subscriptions Thinkific sends you. Once those subscriptions are live in your Stripe account, Whop Migrations can move them with their cards and renewal dates.
  2. Have them re-subscribe on Whop. The wizard creates a hidden plan with a free trial that ends on each student's next Thinkific renewal, so their first Whop charge lands on the day Thinkific would have charged them.

Students who paid with PayPal bought once, because Thinkific's PayPal integration doesn't handle subscriptions or payment plans. They get free claim links like any other one-time buyer.

The Stripe route spares students from typing in a card again, and that matters, because re-subscribe campaigns lose people. One creator who left Teachable said only about 400 of more than 9,000 students followed them to the new platform (r/elearning, June 2025). The Stripe route has its own costs, though:

  • A Basic or Start site has to move up to Grow ($219 a month) to connect Stripe.
  • Thinkific disables Thinkific Payments when the migration starts, and with it TCommerce-only tools such as order bumps, gifting and the sales tax service.
  • Sales that run through Stripe while you're still on Thinkific pay the 1% gateway fee on Grow.
  • Two support teams handle the transfer, and Thinkific's article gives no timeline.

Our guide to moving subscriptions onto Whop compares both routes, and the Stripe to Whop walkthrough covers Whop Migrations from eligibility to the final report.

How the switch works, step by step

Build everything on Whop first, move students second and cancel Thinkific last. In that order nobody loses access and nobody pays twice.

  1. Export in one sitting: the user table with every column visible, the Orders and Transactions files, and a progress report for each course you want a record of.
  2. Download your course videos, PDFs and audio, and copy text lessons and quiz questions into documents.
  3. Clean the student files with the member CSV converter.
  4. Create your Whop and connect it to the free migration wizard with Whop's official "Sign in with Whop". We never ask for your Thinkific password.
  5. Confirm one Whop product per Thinkific product at the same prices and billing periods, paste each course outline, then upload or embed the videos.
  6. Open Whop Forums and Chat and pin a welcome post that tells students where everything moved.
  7. Run Whop Migrations for Stripe subscriptions, including any that Thinkific support moved for you, and send re-subscribe links to everyone else on a subscription.
  8. Send free claim links to one-time and PayPal buyers.
  9. Cancel each remaining Thinkific subscription as its student lands on Whop, then release your custom domain and cancel your plan.

How to keep students and avoid double billing

For Stripe subscriptions, Whop Migrations handles the timing. It moves each subscription with its renewal date and sets the Stripe copy to cancel at period end, so the student is charged once, by Whop, on their usual date. Tell students before you run it, because Stripe sends them a cancellation notice and a receipt from a new company can surprise them. One Thinkific quirk matters here: once you downgrade or cancel, a student who cancels inside Thinkific isn't cancelled in Stripe, so check Stripe for anything still active.

For Thinkific Payments students who re-subscribe, you line up the dates. Say a student pays $49 on the 12th of each month and their last charge in the Transactions export is September 12, so their next renewal is October 12. Sales, then Subscriptions confirms it, because each row shows when the next payment is due. You send them a link to a hidden Whop plan whose free trial ends on October 12, and they join on October 2. In Thinkific, open the three-dot menu on their row, choose Cancel Subscription and type "cancel" to confirm. They keep Thinkific access until October 12, and Whop charges them $49 that day, so they pay once with no gap in access.

Thinkific can't cancel subscriptions in bulk, so a school with hundreds of subscribers needs time for one-by-one cancellations; track who has moved in a spreadsheet. Don't count on cancelling your Thinkific plan to stop student billing either, because Thinkific says subscriptions and payment plans keep charging after you cancel or delete your account. More versions of the announcement are in our migration email templates. Here is a short one for Thinkific students:

Subject: [School name] is moving to Whop on [date]

Hi [first name], we're moving [course or membership name] from Thinkific to Whop on [date], and your access comes with you. Open your private link and sign in to Whop with this email address: [link].

If you pay monthly, your price stays $[price] and your next payment stays on [renewal date]. [If your subscription moved through Stripe: there's nothing else to do, because your card moves with you.] [If you're re-subscribing: add your card on Whop now. Nothing is charged until [renewal date], and we'll cancel your Thinkific billing so you're never charged twice.]

If you bought a course outright, your access on Whop is free. Your lesson progress doesn't carry over, so jump straight to the lesson you were on.

Your Thinkific login keeps working until [date]. Reply to this email if anything looks wrong.

Thinkific vs Whop fees at your revenue

Whop costs less than Thinkific Start and Grow at all three revenue levels below. The gap comes from Thinkific's plan price and its 0.7% subscription surcharge, which is higher than Whop's 0.5% billing fee. The table assumes a $49 monthly membership, US cards, Thinkific billed monthly through Thinkific Payments, no add-ons other than Whop's 0.5% billing fee (counted on every charge), and no payout fees or currency conversion. Whop's $0.07 Radar fee is left out and covered below. Basic isn't in the table because it can't sell subscriptions.

Prices as of October 2026. Sources at the end of this page.

Monthly revenue ($49 members)Whop feesThinkific Start, plan plus feesThinkific Grow, plan plus feesYearly saving vs Start
$1,000 (about 20 charges)$38$151$261$1,356
$10,000 (about 204 charges)$381$530$640$1,788
$50,000 (about 1,020 charges)$1,906$2,215$2,325$3,708

The formula: Whop = revenue × 3.2% + charges × $0.30, where 3.2% is the 2.7% card rate plus Whop's 0.5% billing fee, which Whop lists as applying when enabled and we count on every recurring charge. Thinkific = plan price + revenue × 3.6% + charges × $0.30, where 3.6% is the 2.9% card rate plus 0.7% on subscriptions. Paying Thinkific yearly saves $330 a year on Start and $660 on Grow, which narrows each gap without closing it.

Two costs sit outside the table. Thinkific's sales tax fee adds 0.5% to sales from US and Canadian students, about $50 a month at $10,000 if all your students live there. Whop lists $0.07 per transaction for Radar fraud screening, about $14 a month at the same level, and its optional tax service costs 2% on sales where it collects tax. If you sell one-time courses instead, a $199 course selling $10,000 a month costs about $285 in fees on Whop and $359 on Thinkific Basic, so the saving there is mostly Basic's plan price.

To run your own numbers, choose Thinkific and its Start plan in the fee calculator, or see every Whop fee, line by line.

Should you switch from Thinkific to Whop?

Switch if Thinkific's plan fee mostly pays for course hosting and checkout. Stay if your business runs on Thinkific's training-specific tools or its built-in tax handling.

Switching makes sense when:

  • you sell courses, memberships or community access, and the plan is a large share of revenue: at $1,000 a month, Start's plan and fees take 15% of sales, against about 4% on Whop;
  • your subscribers already pay through Stripe, or you're willing to have Thinkific support move them there, so nobody re-enters a card;
  • you want buyers you didn't bring yourself, through Whop's Discover marketplace, whose published commission has been 0% since May 12, 2025, or its affiliate network;
  • you want to sell access to a Discord or Telegram community alongside your courses. Whop's fee page lists no extra fee for its Discord and Telegram apps, but each app's listing says adding it puts a 3% fee on that product's payments. With the 3%, $10,000 a month in $49 memberships costs about $681 on Whop instead of $381, above Thinkific Start's $530, so budget for both cases.

Stay on Thinkific when:

  • you sell compliance or corporate training that needs SCORM, SSO or learning paths on Plus, or group orders and invoicing on Grow. Whop's Courses documentation doesn't list SCORM or SSO (October 2026);
  • most students pay through Thinkific Payments, you're on Basic or Start, and neither a month on Grow for the Stripe route nor a re-subscribe campaign is worth it to you;
  • you want sales tax collected and remitted for you at Thinkific's 0.5%, rather than paying 2% for Whop Tax Service or filing it yourself;
  • your students learn in your branded Thinkific app, which stops working for them when you cancel. Whop students use Whop's own iOS and Android apps, and Whop doesn't offer a branded app.

Whop has limits to plan around as well. New accounts can face a reserve on part of their balance and a $2,500 cap per checkout until Whop approves higher amounts, and every sale runs through Whop Payments, so you can't bring your own Stripe account. Whop also has no built-in email marketing (no broadcasts, sequences or segments). It sends welcome and goodbye messages with an optional email copy, forum posts by email and transactional emails, so student newsletters need an email app from Whop's App Store or your own email tool. If you're weighing other course platforms too, see our ranked list of Thinkific alternatives or the Whop vs Teachable comparison for course sellers.

After the move: launch checklist

Run through this as a test student before you announce the move, and finish it before you cancel Thinkific.

  • Buy your own product through a Whop checkout link with a real card, then refund it.
  • Open a claim link in a private window and check that the right course, Forums and Chat appear.
  • Compare a few trial end dates with the renewal dates in Thinkific's Subscriptions table.
  • In Stripe, confirm that every migrated subscription is set to cancel at the end of its period.
  • Finish Whop's payout setup and identity verification, and apply for higher checkout links if any product costs more than $2,500 per payment.
  • Keep a cash buffer for your first weeks, because Whop can hold part of a new account's balance in reserve.
  • Export users, orders and transactions one last time, since cancelling removes your access to the dashboard and those tables.
  • Remove your custom domain as Thinkific's primary domain, then cancel under Account, then Account Management, then Manage Subscription.
  • Update the links in your bio, email footers and video descriptions.

Our guide to Whop payouts and identity checks covers the payout setup in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Can my Thinkific Payments subscribers move to Whop without re-entering a card?

Yes, in two hops. Thinkific support can transfer customers and active subscriptions from Thinkific Payments to your own Stripe Standard account, which needs the Grow plan to connect. Once they're active subscriptions in your Stripe, Whop Migrations moves the ones paid by card, worth $1 or more and with an email on file, and keeps their renewal dates. Skip that step and students re-subscribe on a trial timed to their next renewal.

Can I export a whole course from Thinkific?

No. Thinkific's help center says there's no way to export a course as one file and no bulk download. You save videos one at a time from the Video Library, or the Asset Library on sites created since January 28, 2026, download PDFs and audio from each lesson, and copy text and quiz questions by hand. Then paste the outline into our wizard to rebuild the course on Whop.

Do I need Thinkific's Grow plan to leave?

Only for one route. User, order and transaction exports work on Basic and above, and our wizard runs on those files, so you can leave from any plan. You need Grow ($219 a month) only if you want Thinkific support to move Thinkific Payments subscriptions into your own Stripe account, because in Thinkific Payments countries such as the US, only Grow and higher plans can connect Stripe.

Will students keep paying Thinkific after I cancel my plan?

Yes, unless you stop their billing first. Thinkific says subscriptions and payment plans keep charging even after you cancel or delete your account. Cancel Thinkific Payments subscriptions one at a time under Sales, then Subscriptions; each student keeps access until their paid period ends. For Stripe subscriptions, check your Stripe dashboard, because cancellations made inside Thinkific stop reaching Stripe once you downgrade.

What should I do with my custom domain before leaving Thinkific?

Remove it as your primary domain in Thinkific before you cancel. Thinkific warns that otherwise your default thinkific.com address redirects to the custom domain once the plan ends, which can lock you out of your admin dashboard until support restores access. After you've released it, point the domain at wherever your new sales page lives so old links keep working. For a whop.site website, forward it at your registrar, since connecting it directly needs Whop's API.

Whop vs Thinkific: which costs less?

Whop, at every revenue level we modeled. On $49 monthly memberships, fees come to about $38, $381 and $1,906 a month on Whop at $1,000, $10,000 and $50,000 in sales, against $151, $530 and $2,215 on Thinkific Start, the cheapest Thinkific plan that sells subscriptions. Those figures leave out Thinkific's 0.5% sales tax fee on US and Canadian sales (about $50 a month at $10,000) and Whop's $0.07 Radar fee per charge (about $14); counting both would widen the gap.

Can Whop host my course videos?

Yes. Whop's Courses app takes uploaded videos or YouTube and Loom embeds, plus text, PDF and quiz lessons, video watermarking and completion certificates. Our wizard builds the course structure and embeds any YouTube or Loom links you paste, but it doesn't copy video files, so upload the files you downloaded from Thinkific into each lesson.
